I'm on a 25 hour contract same as you and was in the same boat doing late deliveries for about 3 months. I constantly brought work back as most of the duties I was on were blocks of flats and all the time locks shut at 1pm so it was all pointless. I ended up just prioritizing tracked parcels and usually brought back 3 - 4 bags regularly. As others have said, explain that you don’t have the time and break it down to your lino like you have done here, do what you can and then go home. If you work between 5 and 7 hours you get a 30 min break that you can take when you like, I take mine at the end of my duty and my dom hasn't said a word. Work your time, take your breaks and go home, don’t sweat the small stuff.
On another note working from 1pm isn’t your standard start time and is totally voluntary, If you don’t want to do it anymore, explain it to your lino or dom and they will have to sort it out. If they say there are no vans available in the morning, tough s**t, not your problem. Go out and do a trolly round instead or whatever. Whatever you do, don't agree to use your own vehicle in the morning if they ask, that's a whole other bag of nightmares. Good luck!

First thing dont sweat it. You'll always get the usual responses, nothing much there, x does it etc.edward918 wrote:Managers still gave me stick today for bringing mail/parcels back, even though I worked my contracted hours. (10am until 14:40, 20 minute break until 15:00).
Excuses such as:
- "You should be working 5 hours on delivery, you're back too early so you could have done more"
this is false as I'm entitled to my 20 minute break, so I should in fact be working 4.5 hours.
"I know other staff members who can complete the duty that you're on in time"
yes, perhaps on a Monday and Tuesday but they fail to mention the fact that people get in way before their official start time, therefore they finish at for example 13:30 instead of 14:30..
starting to get sick and tired of being made to feel like a failure. Who knew it would be so difficult to simply do my contracted hours and go home??
5hr shift = 30 min break therefore 4hr 30min left.
5hr on delivery on a 5 hr shift??? Ask him why isnt the van loaded ready to go before you walk in & who is going to unload it after u comeback. Bagged up / unloading all takes time.
If there is too much work to do within 5hr, its not your problem. Ask your manager what he wants you to do / leave as its too much to do within the duty time.
We had a guy put on a stinker of a paired duty. To make it worse he was working himself one frame one day other frame next day. Wasnt getting back til after 4pm most days until we told him he doesnt have to complete it if he doesnt want the o/t. Since then hes loving the job. Some days he only takes large parcels no mail or dropbag parcels, other days only mail no large parcels or dropbag parcels, other days only takes two rows etc.

[quote="WASD"]Managers and DOMs just don't have the leadership skills, (mostly, not all managers are bad). It's obvious things don't work, and your experience is the same everywhere.
Sadly, posties who are hard workers, (not all by a long shot), are wasted potential.
The sooner this company goes under, the better imho.
RM, Ofcom, CWU, and posties, all at fault. The few who care are getting so demoralised.
WHATEVER. IF IT'S THAT BAD WHY DON'T YOU JUST f**k OFF FROM THE JOB NOW.

Any DO is only going to have a small number of HCT duties. Isn't there the risk of the DOM sending the OP home?Jamesfr3man wrote:On another note working from 1pm isn’t your standard start time and is totally voluntary, If you don’t want to do it anymore, explain it to your lino or dom and they will have to sort it out. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

In my DO there aren't enough vans for each duty so we (the P/Ters) started later on so that vans could become available later on in the day and as I said, it sucked and never worked, so now we pair a van with a HCT. The driver does his round plus all the O/S for the partners round and the walker just does what he can fit in the trolly. It's that or the driver ends up dropping bags down to the walker all day with a golf trolly or if the round is piss easy, the walker can just meet the van and park and loop both duties if they are near each other. All of which suck for the driver as he's constantly going back and forth between the duties and not doing his own bags. I can't wait for this to change.SpacePhoenix wrote:Any DO is only going to have a small number of HCT duties. In OPs case, if there are no vans available in the mornings, his lino or Dom will have to find something for him to do, maybe some absorb or loops that are near the office? Maybe even doing just d2d in door prepping? Booking in? Collections as part of this contracted hours? who knows? But if he's not happy he needs to make them aware, let them sort it out, It is their job after all!

RM are cheeky, I don't have my hours printed on my contract, all it says is "Your hours of work will be allocated to you by your manager. However these hours may change from time to time after giving you reasonable notice" whatever that means. But what I do have is emails from HR about the original job advertisement which states my contracted hours which I saved. Don’t let them take advantage of you with this BS “contract” statement.2yearpostie wrote:Fellow part timers, may i ask if you have an actual start and finish time printed on your contract, or does it say you may be required to work as the business requires?

God knows whats going to happen when xmas rears its ugly head, the house of cards that management have spent all this time making during the covid crisis is going to fall and we're going to have to pick up the pieces...SpacePhoenix wrote:I can't see it changing until early 2021 at the earliestJamesfr3man wrote:In my DO there aren't enough vans for each duty so we (the P/Ters) started later on so that vans could become available later on in the day and as I said, it sucked and never worked, so now we pair a van with a HCT. Don’t put up with being bullied by incompetent managers. Get your rep involved, log everything and stick a grievance in. And if it gets too much, go see a Dr. and get signed off. Seen too many of these threads now. Bullying by managers due to workload is rife in RM. It’s about time they realised it does more harm than good.

Yeah there is just no way we can continue working like this once November comes around. They are either going to have to put us back to shared vans or do an outdoor revision based on single vans and Hct duties. It’s a mess.Jamesfr3man wrote:God knows whats going to happen when xmas rears its ugly head, the house of cards that management have spent all this time making during the covid crisis is going to fall and we're going to have to pick up the pieces...SpacePhoenix wrote:I can't see it changing until early 2021 at the earliestJamesfr3man wrote:In my DO there aren't enough vans for each duty so we (the P/Ters) started later on so that vans could become available later on in the day and as I said, it sucked and never worked, so now we pair a van with a HCT. I'd be surprised if van shares will be physically possible at xmas anyway, you'll probably have way to much mail to be able to fit the letters, parcels, Tracked etc into a van for two duties. If they tried to bring back shared vans then my gut feeling is that they'd get a major bollocking from the HSE. There's no getting around the fact that some in DOs will have to work in the afternoons. HCT deliveries might not even be an option for some DOs if they're located away from the area they covertoonshola wrote:Yeah there is just no way we can continue working like this once November comes around.
