Been Shielding for so long - Half pay incoming......

Post by jimmy76 »

So, I basically received a letter at home the other day from my line manager saying that my weekly pay will be reduced by half from next week.

I had already lost my night shift allowance after 8 weeks of shielding but that was to be expected.

What I'm wondering now is, what can I do about it? If anything? Any procedures I should know about or loop holes?

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat and a lot of people in a similar situation from shielding for so long will also be approaching this deadline date/point. So any answers or advice will help many.

Thanks in advance, Jim.

check out this thread for options on furlough. Might be worth having a word with an Area or local rep for updated information

If you are shielding out of choice then RM don't pay you at all. You should be on zero pay. You should try to look at furlough option. If you are recieving half pay maybe they have put you down as sick instead of shielding?

Official shielding finished on the 1st August (In England anway).
Apart from the furlough link ltb Teebs posted there are no updates, are RM still furloughing people? With shielding stooping nationally, all be it the bits and bobs areas every now and then.
Contast coronavirus.advice@royalmail.com there are usually very good for/with info.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The other thing to be aware of if you are on full time hours is that although your gross pay will be halved, your nett pay will not half because your national insurance and income tax will be a lot less. Your nett income will be more like two thirds of

what your nett income is on full pay. This is also due to the fact that your personal allowances will be a higher percentage of your halved pay compared to your full pay.
