Vehicle breakdowns during Coronavirus

If during a daily check you identify the need for a tyre, contact the Royal Mail Fleet Customer Service Centre who will make a booking either with your location fleet workshop, or via our emergency tyre supplier through a drop-in centre.

We will only use a Drop-in Tyre Centre for an operator if the drive distance is more than 10 miles from a Royal Mail Fleet workshop.

Breakdown/Recovery

Breakdown/Recovery Royal Mail has been working closely with our key supplier (RAC) to ensure that we adhere to the Government guidelines and keep all our colleagues and RAC staff safe if a vehicle breaks down while a driver is on duty.

Here’s how:
• When calling jobs in to RAC, you will now be asked additional questions regarding the health of the driver to allow RAC to triage the call and allow the patrols to carry out dynamic risk assessments.
• The driver and RAC patrol technician will always maintain a 1m+ distance for effective social distancing.
• RAC patrol mechanics will use protective products to clean the surfaces they touch in vehicles.
• If RAC cannot fix the vehicle at the side of the road, they will endeavour to transport the driver back to their office as follows:
• Customers are allowed inside RAC vehicles, with the appropriate mitigation which will include enhanced cleaning of vehicle surfaces, wearing a face covering (the RAC will provide if our driver does not have a suitable covering of their own), open windows where practical and reduced conversation during the journey.

In my experience, the RAC say up to 6 hours anyway.

Plymouth Live (7 Aug., 2020) ~ Royal Mail Van's Wheels Stolen in Bizarre West Park Incident

Royal Mail has confirmed an investigation is underway after the theft of two wheels from one of its delivery vans. A member of the public spotted the wheel-less vehicle on Wednesday morning in the West Park car park, near to the Peter Goord Travel agents, off Crownhill Road.
At about 7.15am Mark Mitchell stumbled across the van, near to the West Park Delivery Office.
Pictures show the brakes exposed where the wheels have been taken, and a hub cap under the vehicle.
Royal Mail is urging anyone who may have information to contact the police.
A Royal Mail Spokesperson said: “Royal Mail and the police are investigating the circumstances around the theft of two wheels from one of our vehicles.
We would urge anyone with information to contact the police."

Probably the thieves knew what they were after they stole the two most valuable and reliable bit's of the Fiat Dodo Dodar how anyone can sell this s**t never less buy hire it the lord god only knows!

The only van that comes with optional wheel locking nuts and guess who did not fit them RM fleet most other vans get nicked and striped but no self respecting criminal would put his life at risk driving this furnace on wheels!

It was obviously a good samaritan, making sure that these death traps are kept off the road.
