Walker getting more money while using a car

Post by Flashman_ »

I don't mind the walker getting the mileage allowance. What I do mind is how my Dom has allowed one of the walkers I work with to take the mail home, and work from there. I know this is strictly against the rules, or it was, this situation means when I work on that duty, he takes out the easy side of the shared walks, I get to do the hard side. The couple of times I have worked like this it was very light so I just managed to finish in my time. However I know he was finished over an hour before I did.

Extremely bad idea. If the s**t were to hit the fan, the DOM would deny ever giving permission and the staff member would probably be sacked on the spot

I’ve been working with an postie, he drives out meets the van, loads up as much of his walk as he can on a trolley & over his shoulder, he took the whole walk Monday, somewhere between half 11 & 12 I find his PDA & trolley in the van & he's gone leaving me with all the oversized & couple of my loops which takes me to my time

Wouldn't be me. Does the person you are 'working with' (I use that term loosely as it seems to be a 40/60 arrangement in THEIR favour) know that you are working about 2 hours extra more than them per day? I'd be seriously looking to get out of that sort of arrangement, but it might be too well established now.

You're only using car to drive to first delivery point, right?
People in my office follow the van round and claim all the mileage, saves having to walk between the loops. They only claim for mileage back to the office if they are going back to get overtime they then go out in a van with

When I started over 10 years ago this was rife in my office, park and loop came in and it disappeared. Can't believe the crazy way that guys are willing to 'help the company out' by using their own transport, they lose a lot behind the scenes such added wear and tear on the car, isolation from the workforce, representation issues as never in work, inability to use the cut off procedure etc. Stick to your guns and refuse to use your own transport or work from home

We have people that swore blind that they would never do anything like using OMV's as they hated management. 'I'm doing nothing to help this company out', etc etc. The reason? They are getting to work 4 hours a day instead of 5.5 (ish) hours a day.

Only the stupid will use their own car to do royal mail's work.

Don't use it, cut off, deliver less! It's for royal mail to get you to your first delivery point, not YOU!

It’s been reported some of the car users who are managing to finish a good 1 to 2 hour before their finish time are simply putting their PDA (still logged in) in the back of the van. End result, PDA shows them still moving while the driver finishes off the large parcels.

I think there will be big consequences for those who agreed to use cars. They might view it as a voluntary short term thing which sees them finishing early, I do wonder if it will be expected of them in future.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

RM will probably see through that. How common would it to have two hours worth of loops and not have a single item that needed scanning?

The PDA dashboard will show the PDA's moving around together so this will fail.

They might also wonder how a guy without a vehicle is moving at 30 mph. That's going to get you a couple of extra streets on your delivery and maybe a place on the Olympic 100m team.

In order for a manager to see what the data shows on the PDA dashboard he would first have to get off his fat hairy arse and do something other than get a cup of coffee.
Once presented with the data he would have to do some more work in order to ensure the OPG has sufficient work to fill his contracted hours. Can't see him bothering to do that. Far easier to just stay on his fat hairy arse.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
