Walker getting more money while using a car

What you guys are thinking my walk patner getting extra £50-60 quid a week while using his car £1 a mile is a lot and we have to do all oversize and drop the van

Why don’t you do a swap? Or have a weekly rota so one week car next week van etc.

And even at 35mpg you're using about 0.15p in fuel so that's 27p of profit per mile excluding wear and tear.
You can only claim the distance to and from your first delivery point so at most that's about 8 miles or £2.16 in pre-damage profit per day.

I think that's the equivalent of about 14 minutes overtime.

Personally, I think it's taking liberties with the current situation if people are claiming mileage money at that level, especially if they are finishing in the street and not returning to office. It's supposed to be to first delivery point. No wonder the company is losing millions.
Likewise, many of our 5 hours a day contracts are starting/finishing in the street on a 4 hour delivery only (their day usually consists of 4 hour delivery, 30 mins bundle up, 20 mins travel time, 10 minutes unload van etc). They are all claiming mileage, even though they practically live a stones throw away from their duty, pocketing an hours free pay each day, and driving their car round the duty to save even more time.

Also if not travelling from home direct to the 1st delivery point business use insurance will be needed

And who would want to use there car when Royal mail done away with them years ago and they only insure you 1/3 party now and when it only suits them for a few months ??????

Too late, the genie is out the bottle now. No chance that cars will be removed again. Although, I'd expect RM in the near future to test the water with regards not paying mileage allowance or wanting something back in return for the finish in the street arrangement. Remember, no one is being forced to use their car, the ones I know that are doing it think it's the best thing that's ever happened to the job.

been in the job 30 years and using own car is far better than 2 in a van worse decision ever made by far in my time in the job, a lot less stressfull in my opinion wont be everybodys cup of tea but each to there own redundancies will happen regardless

Well I for one don't miss those days, when you couldn't park on yellow lines, couldn't park in certain areas without a residential permit and not to mention the time I had my car keyed in a not very nice area plus the accelerated wear and tear with all those stop/starts every few minutes. I say let the van take the strain that's what they're there for.
On another note, I refused to use my own car so they put me on another job, made a late starter come in at lunch time to take my walk, but after a few days Hey Presto they had a van for me! Stick to your guns and don't use your own car in my opinion.

No one knows. The whole situation is a total mess and many offices have just been abandoned in all this. We are approaching 5 months into this and our office is a total disaster.

You're only using car to drive to first delivery point, right?
