The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I think that message still comes up on the PDA at 1200 but only because they never changed it for the Covid situation. There has not been any official notification as I am aware of so it is still 1200 or 1300 for the 9am SD & 2100 for the 1pm SD.scoobydo79 wrote:CPSteve I think You will find Specials are now 1PM deadline again .
Numbers of D2D are slowly picking up for this coming week in our DO. We have three or four for half the office and one for the other half. Spotted the Dominos Pizza leaflets which is first time for months.
Regarding lapsing we would usually be doing summer lapsing to cover for the additional AL slot each week. This is not happening as the office is not being cleared of mail on a daily basis due to lack of staff and staggered duty times resulting in not enough staff to complete the sorting. Therefore we are routinely delaying Yorks of small packets and letters every day even on Tuesdays. Letters and flats are admittedly down in quantity but nevertheless the 'available resource' is not there to complete the job.
Sad to say it, and it shouldn't really be the case, but I think the future for RM is going to be a very rocky road.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Since the company said last week that there will be no bonuses you can certainly notice the difference in attitude when you tell them you are not taking the Laps, they don’t seem to care anymore up here.k979aaa wrote:And don't say bonus has nothing to do with it!

After years of bullying, harassment and intimidation from management in regards to lapsing and working to your time.
If the business want me to work my full hours and not pay me overtime but leave part of a duty that suits me fine.
IT'S PAYBACK TIME.

Doing...or not doing...a few loops of lapsing isn't going to sort out the mess we're in ? We were in a bad place before this Covid-19 pandemic arrived and like many companies are going to struggle commercially for some considerable time ahead ( even if automated change is brought in) and I fear it must !!! Double handling of parcels in parcel hubs, mail centres and delivery offices may help hold onto jobs, but it's madness to watch...and commercially unsustainable...
I'm starting to smell the coffee. An automated parcel processing approach is coming. It will cost jobs. One cannot halt progress...

Why they already have three parcel hubs and one is in Warrington other in Scotland and the other in the south of England!Decky Boy wrote:Doing...or not doing...a few loops of lapsing isn't going to sort out the mess we're in ? That is what these new centres do but they are not up and running yet.Decky Boy wrote:That may be the case...but no doubt you've seen the growth in parcels ? In an ideal world surely it would make more sense if walk sorted parcel sleeves arrived in Delivery Offices ???

And without Union agreement these hubs will not come onstream in a timely enough fashion to stop us hemorrhaging money! Even with full cooperation (and good engineering) the new machines will not give productivity improvements immediately...and ultimately will cost some of us our jobs. Let's hope the jobs that remain are quality ones that allow us the promise of more leisure time away from pounding the streets or processing mail ???
With regard to the original question on lapsing... Summer Lapsing is there to facilitate Summer Leave. Lapsing an extra duty means there are more holiday slots during the peak Summer months of May to August. Who wants their Summer Leave in late April or early October...not many I guess ?
FInally SOP for Summer Lapsing is to do the lapsing first. That's what the agreement says. Flexible posties (and managers) may act differently and we have to be carefull here ! Neither side should be picking and choosing which agreement ( or part of an agreement) they feel there is no need to follow. That's why there were over 600 local disagreements on the table untill recently. We must tread carefully when it comes to agreements...look up the definition in your dictionary
