2 IN A VAN AGAIN?
I'm amazed that van-share isn't back yet with driver and passenger both masked. Given how long you are actually in the van together, it seems like low risk to me.

Obviously the business isn't as desperate to have it back as some of the staff are.LouBarlow wrote:I'm amazed that van-share isn't back yet with driver and passenger both masked. Given how long you are actually in the van together, it seems like low risk to me.
I wonder why?

In theory it might be low risk, but RM are still covering their own arse corporate culpability wise.LouBarlow wrote:I'm amazed that van-share isn't back yet with driver and passenger both masked. Given how long you are actually in the van together, it seems like low risk to me.
Scenario.....
Posties A and B back together in van.
Postie A - Asymptomatic CV19 and is the driver but says can't be bothered with this mask and rips it off as soon as they're out the gate,
then has a coughing/sneezing fit, vehicle air blowers on, snot and particles all over the steering wheel, gear stick, indicator stalks, key fob, PDA....
Postie B - Wears mask.
Postie C covers for Postie A the day after.
Posties B and C both get CV19.
HSE - Why did 2 OPG's who were on walk x and were in vehicle y in your office get COVID? What protective measures did and could you
have followed to prevent this?
DOM - Well we did go down to one postie per van, we still could have continued with that but it was a bit difficult and
then nobody could be arsed and we did our own thing........
Not going to happen until RM can cover their arses.......

Two in a van would reduce some costs but this whole Covid19 has got what they wanted ie more flexible workforce and reduced services and we can expect more of this!

Why would they want reduced services.surely a reduced service means less customers. Or am i missing your point.k979aaa wrote:Two in a van would reduce some costs but this whole Covid19 has got what they wanted ie more flexible workforce and reduced services and we can expect more of this!

It's affected other businesses too. Some have laid off staff or filed for bankruptcy.aiden01 wrote:surely a reduced service means less customers.k979aaa wrote:Two in a van would reduce some costs but this whole Covid19 has got what they wanted ie more flexible workforce and reduced services and we can expect more of this!

I don't think any of our town deliveries are desperate for it to come back. They are going home 2+ hours a day early by flying solo. Nobody is using their own car either.Woody Guthrie wrote:Obviously the business isn't as desperate to have it back as some of the staff are.LouBarlow wrote:I'm amazed that van-share isn't back yet with driver and passenger both masked. 2 IN A VAN AGAIN?
Lots of money is being saved by not van sharing at the moment. Pressure overtime used to be for both occupants as both would come back after time probably with time wasted within i.e. one postie sitting in van waiting for the other to finish loop etc.
Now, the full timer comes in earlier, blitzes IPS (no IPS o/t required), gets prepped, gets out early, gets back either before or on time (no pressure o/t). No messing about waiting for partner etc.
P/T starts later, takes van out, and gets back either before or on time. No messing about waiting for partner etc.
With parcels as they are now, some pairings probably would not get both walks into one small van.
Vans being utilised all day instead of spending afternoon sat in yard.
Part walks being left for next day in order to save pressure o/t.
With the company financial situation as it is, it's a no brainer for the number crunchers. But it goes to prove that the good old days of job and finish were by far the most efficient and cost effective way of doing this job!

I get what your saying but the point in wearing a mask is mainly to stop yourself from spreading it to others. I think we all know there will be a percentage of idiots who take the mask off the second the van leaves the depot, then putting their partner at risk. It probably is a small risk sharing a van but every little helps I suppose.LouBarlow wrote:I'm amazed that van-share isn't back yet with driver and passenger both masked. There can't be that many MCs that also have a DO inside themaiden01 wrote:As the callers office is attached to mc and del office is in mc the staff are sent to prep walks in the do.k979aaa wrote:Go and collect a parcel from your local distribution centre they now close at 11:00 am and 9:00 am smaller offices god only knows what they redeploy the staff to!aiden01 wrote:Why would they want reduced services.surely a reduced service means less customers. You could hit a golf ball from the roof of Edinburgh Mail Centre and hit Edinburgh West DO.
They might not be integrated but it's a 2 minute walk.
