You'd need a rocket to get around and do 2 walks every day, no chance of doing the best part of 20 miles otherwise. I'm.struggling with knee pain doing 1 walk as it, dread to think what impact doing another full walk a day would have.2yearpostie wrote:It isnt rocket sicence, make it so morning staff do 2 walks {or at least 1.5} of letters and afternoons do 2 walks of parcels/oversized. But it cant be forced through 'without agreement'

Here in the real world on the front line more vans will help. Several people are using their own cars, getting buses or driving to delivery points. Single shared vans often cannot hold all the parcels people seem to need. More staff will also help as we have many failed walks everyday because most walks are too big, certainly now in the new normal where rows of mail are left everyday. Also people are forced to take holidays so some walks are not covered all week. Not to mention those sick or shielding.SpacePhoenix wrote:More staff won't make any difference as they can't have extra staff in the office during the mornings, why do you think they brought split shifts in?Jahpostie wrote:More vans and more staff would be a startMore vans kinda won't help for the same reason

Who decided that?

Now is the time to start planning as I worry those on the afternoon shift will just be expected to lump it and not complain when it’s getting dark at 3.30pm and they still have 2 hours to go.
Only way I can see it working is those starting at 1pm etc are given half a round plus parcels, so in theory they have approx 2 hours of posting then at least they are ‘only’ delivering parcels in the dark. Not ideal I know.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

The reason there's such a difference between the start times of the split shifts is to allow enough vans to return to the office for the next shift to start.SpacePhoenix wrote:More staff won't make any difference as they can't have extra staff in the office during the mornings, why do you think they brought split shifts in?Jahpostie wrote:More vans and more staff would be a startMore vans kinda won't help for the same reason
If we had more vans we could start the next shift at around 10am rather than 1.30pm.
Social distancing is not an issue in the office after 10am as the IPS which is the most difficult issue to manage is complete.

Even with 1m distancing van share isn't possible[/quote]
don't do deliverers to cold and wet outside .
I know you only have 1 in a van ,but how are driving schools getting around having 2 in a vehicular ?
could delivery not follow the driving school guidelines to get you out to the start of your delivery's

It isn’t , it’s just incredibly poor messaging once again from the government.Woody Guthrie wrote:Is it?The distancing is going down to 1 metre in the offices from next week anyway

It’s one metre plus ppe if you can’t keep 1m apart.

I can't see RM getting extra vans in, I think if they were going to get extra vans in, they'd already done so by nowWoody Guthrie wrote:The reason there's such a difference between the start times of the split shifts is to allow enough vans to return to the office for the next shift to start.SpacePhoenix wrote:More staff won't make any difference as they can't have extra staff in the office during the mornings, why do you think they brought split shifts in?Jahpostie wrote:More vans and more staff would be a startMore vans kinda won't help for the same reason

I would also suspect that Royal Mail would either keep it at 2m or move to 1m + mandatory masks and ultimately that will be their decision to make.Pidleypoo wrote:It isn’t , it’s just incredibly poor messaging once again from the government.Woody Guthrie wrote:Is it?The distancing is going down to 1 metre in the offices from next week anyway

Of course that only applies in England.

I agree but the argument was what could be done to help not what will be done.SpacePhoenix wrote:I can't see RM getting extra vans in, I think if they were going to get extra vans in, they'd already done so by now

I think this has been covered before but the difference is in the decision making.could delivery not follow the driving school guidelines to get you out to the start of your delivery's
Moving to one in a Royal Mail van is a pain in the arse.
Moving to one in a driving instructor's vehicle is impossible.
The two things are not comparable. Some of the things we do coming out of lockdown are riskier than others but with some there are no other viable options, Royal Mail has safer options, we might not like them but that's really just tough to be blunt.

Had an ambassador meeting, and he said it's been agreed and will be announced next week, our union rep didn't look impressed. Also said lots of talks ongoing about van shares, and they are discussing people having to wear masks when in the vans together.Woody Guthrie wrote:Is it?The distancing is going down to 1 metre in the offices from next week anyway

If it was my business I would bring forward any investment in new vans and say get 3 or 4 thousand new ones delivered as soon as possible. Keep patching up the ones that should already be in the scrapyard as they are currently doing then reassess after Xmas, that should relieve abit of the pressure and save them some hire charges over Xmas. But what do I know.

Anyone who feels comfortable going back to van shares with masks on should be allowed to and maybe just sign a waiver if that’s what’s stopping Royal Mail going back to it, site workers and bin men etc seem to be back to it, We’re only in the vans a very limited time, people who don’t want to shouldn’t be forced though and even if it meant not being on there own duty as long as they’re safe that’s the main thing. Everyone’s in different places with the virus and it’s a right pain.citypostie wrote:Had an ambassador meeting, and he said it's been agreed and will be announced next week, our union rep didn't look impressed. And who is signing a waiver for the person or persons that YOU pass it on to after catching it as a result of van sharing?Manboat wrote:Anyone who feels comfortable going back to van shares with masks on should be allowed to and maybe just sign a waiver if that’s what’s stopping Royal Mail going back to it, site workers and bin men etc seem to be back to it, We’re only in the vans a very limited time, people who don’t want to shouldn’t be forced though and even if it meant not being on there own duty as long as they’re safe that’s the main thing.
