It's not really relevant how many overall staff they have, just how many would be affected under the current guidelines. 17 million sounds like overkill, maybe they're just being cautious who knows.SpacePhoenix wrote:How many staff does RM have (RM + PF excluding GLS) across all sites and functions (management and non-management)?Woody Guthrie wrote:I would suspect with 17 million masks in stock or on order the business has plans for more widespread use of face masks.
Just a guess though....

It sounds like kinda the right number if they were to make the wearing of masks mandatory for all staff at all sites whilst on any RM or PF property, allowing for replacements, which does suggest that they could be single use masksWoody Guthrie wrote:It's not really relevant how many overall staff they have, just how many would be affected under the current guidelines.

I'm curious to know how the mandatory policy will be implemented by banks. I have a half dozen banks on my duty and one of them is actually contacting their head office to inquire about the mandatory policy that begins next Friday. In general, banks refuse entry to people who wear a mask, burka or balaclavas under crash helmets for obvious reasons. But with face masks to protect the wearer and the public from the coronavirus, this raises a conundrum.
I guess if the eyes are exposed there wouldn't be a security risk. But for those wearing thick-rimmed glasses or shades and a face mask at the same time? Hmm...

It's not hard.
I thought you weren't supposed to fiddle with the covering and had to wash your hands in between taking it on/off?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

"Monstrous imposition"? Sir Desmond Swayne MP is a nutjob.
But I have to ask: Why is the United Kingdom always so slow to take action when tackling COVID-19? Is it to maintain the ignominious ranking of being the third worst nation in the world and the worst in Europe regarding the total number of coronavirus deaths?

I trust any of you who chooses to wear a face cover puts your used face cover into a bio hazard waste bag for professional removal. Or if not then why not?

No, I didn't miss the correct number of coronavirus deaths. They're actually higher than what's reported by the British media.Spigot bearing wrote:You do know the numbers regarding the deaths aren't quite right don't you? Or did you miss that?
Spigot bearing, you believe that members of this chat forum and the public in general are acting hysterical over this pandemic. In actual fact, I haven't seen anyone in our office or the average John and Jane Doe in the street shouting, "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! WEAR FACE MASKS! WEAR FACE MASKS!" Most people are going about their day acting responsible.
Seriously, dude, it's just a matter of taking precautions, caring for our health and everyone around us, and waiting for a safe and effective vaccine. Don't fall for propaganda & conspiracy nonsense and act naïve about it all.

That's another question you've raised which is antithetical to your comments about the hysteria over wearing face masks in the first place.Spigot bearing wrote:I trust any of you who chooses to wear a face cover puts your used face cover into a bio hazard waste bag for professional removal. But since you asked: This is Britain. People litter. It's sad, but it's the mindset of the people here. (The smart ones would follow the advice from W.H.O. and Public Health England. But you probably missed that, too.)

Lol. Don't feed the troll!
If he / she is a postie, they will soon wear a mask when it's made compulsory, or they'll go down conduct.
And if he / she is for real, I feel sorry for its workmates.

I'm not British; I'm a clean person. And I'm sending my used face masks to your address via 1:00pm Special Delivery so that you can get rid of them for me. It'll help you learn how to dispose of them responsibly. Don't forget to wash your hands.Spigot bearing wrote:I take it you'll throw yours away in any bin then from that response.
Right then, I'm off to bed (early night for me.

It's an interesting conundrum the deaths figures.Spigot bearing wrote:You do know the numbers regarding the deaths aren't quite right don't you? Or did you miss that?
Excess deaths is the gold standard and is really the only way to judge the impact of a pandemic properly but the difficult thing about excess deaths is where do you start from?
You see we don't have a 5 year average under a lockdown situation and it doesn't take a genius to work out that the average under lockdown would be lower than the average without lockdown because not only are you surpressing Covid-19 transmission you're also surpressing the transmission of a lot of other nasty little buggers like influenza, measles, mumps and all those nasty little STDs that I'm sure you've had some experience of, not to mention the stabbings at 2 am outside the disco and the work related deaths.
So to summarise if you take the 5 year average then remove a sizeable chunk for the other transmittable diseases and sundries we've managed to avoid during the lockdown that's a lot of excess deaths that can only really be attributed to the new kid on the block.
But you're right in one way the numbers are a little wrong, It's a lot more than PHE are reporting.
