The one thing that is upsetting me is that Royal Mail made a big thing of the first ballot being only just over 50% of the eligible members, but they are crowing over 64% for acceptance on a 64% turn out. If my maths is right that's 40.96% hardly a resounding victory.

Just for info the 1st Ballot was 77.5% on a 66% turn out (very rough figures) = 51.5% again not a resounding victory but at least more supported than either did not or failed to vote.

BTW, after a period of reflection I think we would have lost anyway and now I will try to make the agreement work as much as I can because the majority of those who did vote accepted the deal and therefore so should I.

Lets look forwards not backwards.

For even i accept this is a "DONE DEAL" and the membership have had their say but this so called "AGREEMENT" is open to abuse and must be discussed by each and everyone of us!. For it is not just your job but your right to a life outside work which is in question by this very agreement for it is vague and is in my opinion a failed agreement!. FOR IT IS NOW UPTO EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US TO STAND FOR OUR RIGHT'S TO A LIFE OUTSIDE OF ROYALMAIL!.

totally my point

Post by gspot01 »

Fluke you are so right mate, and exactly my point. This form of voting is open to corruption and when a result goes against the grain you cant help but think that is exactly what has happened.

To my mind only the brain dead would vote for this deal, come to think of it did Crozier and Leighton get a vote.

In the first instance the minute you accept the deal, you accept approx £400 less payment a year for doing more work and at the end of the five year bonus scheme, you get nowt so now you are doing so much more and losing about £1200 a year, think about it. No payments for D to D. and no payments for Election Materials, and yes before I enter into this statement I know they have still to be decided in a seperate deal. Do you have any belief in the current negotiators that they can come away with a deal which benefits the working postman, cause if you do you need to show me where they applied it in the current deal, cause ive looked and its s**t.

Union Execs have been bought off, and need to be replaced now if this union is ever to rear its head again, with them in the top spots we are puppets, with RM pulling the strings.

Anyone who cant see that is either a Numpty, Manager, or Crozier or Leighton themselves.

Anyone who voted no please disregard the last line, anyone who voted yes which one are you, all for the democratic vote and good on you if you had good reason, like severe hardship and had to vote yes, but if you are just a brain dead follower of the big 32" screen in your DO then you get all you deserve, cause believe me, the s**t is about to hit the fan.

Bullying, more work, less pay, sore backs, stress, sickness, days off, and by the way Xmas is here. Have fun.

The ballot papers had numbers on. Anyone adding or substituting papers would have had to ensure that no numbers duplicated those on papers which had already been counted (the counting process was done by an independent company). Not possible, I think.

I think a lot of posties followed the recommendation of the CWU when they voted. So if we want things different next time, we need to change the CWU.

I believe the barcodes only indicate which branch they were from, not the individual member.
But I don't believe that the vote would have been fiddled.
The reality is that a lot of people didn't vote for a variety of reasons, which they will probably come to regret in the coming months as the realities of RM 'modernisation' hits home.

change

Post by gspot01 »

Unfortunately now that it is here, changing the CWU wont make a lot of difference. Things will never go backwards, the only hope is that with a new Exec we might be able to fight to retain what little is left.

Quite right, we need to change the CWU. On this one the EC have been found wanting.
Get new blood in there, we need stand up people in there who, even after a week of badgering from billy n mandy remain pricipaled.

Spot on baldrick they do indicate the branch. i was told to-day that the south-east in general returned a massive no vote. Sadly thousands not voting is nothing new. As long as i can remember apathy has always been rife amongst postie's

The fact is that 30-40% of people are followers and Postmen/women are no different. The swing was inevitible once our union leaders had ratified the deal.

My advice to all is that if you are lacking in backbone, you'd better get some quickly. Remember, RM have to operate within uk employment laws as well as European working directives. You need to know these and uphold them regardless of any bullying and intimidation.
I have already seen some attempts at flexible working and seen them fail, getting managers very frustrated. There will be a lot of teething troubles over the coming months and I for one, will not allow myself to take the flak for it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
