Been off shielding because my partners medical condition in Wales and due back August 1st but had conversation with line manager why the date in Wales is different then everywhere else and she was told only people in Wales who personally had a NHS letter and were told to shield would be due back on August 17 and anyone who lives in the same household who are shielding because they live in the same house would be due back on August 1st.Anyone know if this is correct.thanks.

Meanwhile in Wales, almost 130,000 people are shielding and the Chief Medical Officer for Wales says the current guidance runs until at least 16 August.

You are in Wales, you do what the Welsh peeps do, forget what is happening in England, Scot, Ire, US, Spain, Italy ect or elsewhere.
Or have you confused me with your question.

I get it now, if you are shielding it's 17 Aug,(Cause you are in Wales and not anywhere else!) If someone is in your household and shielding with you then it is the same date.
Does not matter what is happening elsewhere like I previously said.
What happens in England stays in England, nuffin to do with you.

I think she is, it does not make sense, double check with rep/area etc though for good measure and back up.

I have just had it clarified from union that in Wales if you are shielding because you live in a household with anyone who has a NHS letter then you are off until 17th August,thanks.

This is what I got from furlough helpline.

"You have asked if your furlough period will be extended to 16th August. We are aware that current advice in Wales is to continue to shield until 16th August. The business has decided for all employees shielding others the furlough period would be extended until end July providing appropriate evidence of the need to continue to “shield others” was provided. This is consistent with the fact that the furlough scheme is being withdrawn. Therefore, your furlough period will not be extended beyond end July. This would be the case for any employee shielding others.

We understand that you may be concerned about returning to work. Your manager should contact you over the coming days to discuss how and when you plan to return to work after the end of your furlough period. You will have the opportunity to discuss with your manager the options that will work best for you. Guidance from public health is that you do not need to shield, however you should continue to do what you can to support the person shielding and to carefully follow the guidance on staying alert and safe (which includes social distancing). You are able to go to work if you cannot work from home. We have lots of changed working practices and preventative measures in place across the business to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of employees. Your manager will talk you through those that are in place within your office. You can then agree the approach with your manager including options re: returning to work, or you may wish to take some annual leave or unpaid time off."

Union rep will talk to the manager today so i wait to see what happens.I would guess both sides have they own interpretation of what was agreed so i let you all know the out come.thanks.

We know that the UK Government is making changes to the advice it will be issuing to people who are shielding in England from July.

But our advice to people who are shielding in Wales remains the same as set out in the letters sent by the Chief Medical Officer earlier this month.

We are asking this group of people to continue following the shielding advice set out in the Chief Medical Officer for Wales’ most recent letter sent out at the beginning of June, until August 16

Yes I know. Mind-boggling

Both Manager and HR saying furlough period will not be extended beyond end July for any employee shielding others.

I have to take unpaid leave until August 16.
