Discussion on being asked in early the following day to make up time.

For the last three months, I have taken my car to duty and left it there. I know in some people's eyes that is a no-no but with being a reserve its kept me on the same duty since the start of the pandemic plus ive taken out Business insurance for free so it suits me for set days off otherwise I would not do it trust me. Anyway those that do take cars can finish on their duty and do not need to go back to the office. This week we have had a quiet monday and Tuesday and have finished 30 mins early each day but when ive gone home ive been welcomed by a text message from my manager to come in 30 mins early for free to make the time up. We are rarely early and sometimes run over 5-10 minutes on busy days which I dont put down on docket unless its 15mins or over. Today I finished at 14.15 with a finish time of 14.40 and he still going to ring me if it hadnt been for my partner explaining that I have to allow time to get back to my car.
My manager need to take into consideration that at the end of the duty I have a 10 minute walk back to my car and then its a 10 minute drive to pass the office. It seems the goalposts are constantly changing. They have to realise im also doing them a favour by using my private car and of this carries on then I will refuse to ever use my car again.

depends on how bad you want to keep the status quo, though they can really send you anywhere regardless but make it hard for them if they do,
you could go in early as requested then after your break inform them that you no longer will be using your own car and will use public transport if no available vans and return for signing out at 2.40

but knowing rm they will then make life hard for you, make sure you inform your rep of what's been asked of you too, pretty sure its 24hrs notice to change your hours,
it seems they are drifting back into their old habits now

but why not drive back to the office & that's your finish time, claim the O/T & extra petrol involved.

Just stop using your car if they are that bothered about 30 minutes! Everyone who use their car in my office goes straight home, and doesn't matter what time. They won't ask people to go back to the office either because they know everyone will stop using them, causing them more hassle to deal with

They are bullshiting you about making your time up stop using your car for one....look here every day at our office the seniors are going home 2-3 hours earlier than there finish times no one is making the time up! Seniority means you become Casper the friendly ghoster! Clocking in is a coming kids let the games begin I predict a riot!

You admit yourself that you are getting a good deal to use your car (straight home, staying on same duty), so you are both doing each other a favour. I'm not sticking up for managers but it's hardly a surprise that they are trying to claw back time from some people.

Regardless of whether you use your car or not, there is absolutely no agreement that allows this.
Officially it's called banking of hours and is a massive no no.

Worked with a young part-time lass today that never claims any overtime, but she goes over most days, when I asked her why, she’d been told by her manager it’s her fault she goes over all walks are measured & planned to time, I was fuming & felt quite sorry for her, she’s asked me not to say anything to her manager.

Have heard that many times over the years and the if I don’t come in early for free the job doesn’t get done. Grinds my gears every time I hear it.

I had this argument today, because Monday was extremely light and today was busy my dom said the company can expect us to make up time today?

If the really light Mondays continues long term then they'll probably change your hours to have Monday being shorter and possibly Tuesday being longer
