There's a story in multiple newspapers today that any immunity might last less than a year (from one chart less than 6 months) so it might be like the flu where you need a new vaccine each year

If antibodies are the problem a vaccine might face the same problems directly acquired immunity faces, bearing in mind the damage done to some survivors lungs twice might be enough for most.SpacePhoenix wrote:There's a story in multiple newspapers today that any immunity might last less than a year (from one chart less than 6 months) so it might be like the flu where you need a new vaccine each year

I do actually understand my point is there is no social distancing at our place, the Dom talks right next to you and sorting is on top of each other, I keep moving back and wear a mask but hardly anyone else does that’s why I think if you wear a mask in van it’s no more risky than delivery officePidleypoo wrote:If that’s what you think then you are massively uninformed I’d suggest that you look into it from reputable scientists/epidemiologists/virologists.matthew68 wrote:We are risk all the time at work with no social distancing and no cleaners it’s useless I think it’s actually safer in the van!,Pidleypoo wrote:You have a start and finish time. Why do you want to risk your health and that of your family for a company that couldn’t not care less for you.

Surely other companies are just as liable as RM? Yet they allow van sharingWoody Guthrie wrote:I know you guys are desperate to get back to two in a van for whatever reason but you're completely missing the point.matthew68 wrote:We are risk all the time at work with no social distancing and no cleaners it’s useless I think it’s actually safer in the van!,Pidleypoo wrote:You have a start and finish time. It's all down to legal liability.
Royal Mail need to cover themselves by putting the processes in place, whether they are followed by particular offices doesn't matter because they can point to the processes and wash their hands (pun intended).
What they don't want to do is officially change one of those processes and open themselves up to compensation claims. What other companies do is irrelevant, you can't stand up in court and say DPD does this or that because you'll get laughed at.
Basically as I've said before the lawyers will decide.

How do you know it's company policy to allow van sharing?Surely other companies are just as liable as RM? Yet they allow van sharing
I've spoken to several council employees and they've told me that the policy is single person van use but the staff just ignore it.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter what others do.

Waitrose is company policy to allow van sharing. I was out on delivery and saw a pair in a van no PPE delivering to one of my customers I queried and they confirmed this to me and were surprised we were not back to sharingWoody Guthrie wrote:How do you know it's company policy to allow van sharing?Surely other companies are just as liable as RM? I don’t think it’s simply a case of wanting to get back to van sharing per se. I imagine people are fed up having to get a bus, walk 2 or 3 miles to the start of delivery and back after, cycling out, taking their car out, having to do late start etc etc. Probably fine if you’re the guy who kept your head down at the beginning of all this and didn’t‘volunteer ‘ to try and help out and has smugly driven around you duty on your own for the last 4 months. When this all blew up I would think that the majority of people thought the changes would be very temporary - maybe 3 or 4 weeks. Might be wrong on this but that’s why I think people want to get back to P&L.blakeyboy wrote:This subject on this forum again why are so

Absolutely this. Fed up after 3+ months of getting the bus out and having to walk back as a walker. The driver isn't happy either, despite me not being there to deliver anything for 45-60 minutes every day, he still has hassle from managers about having to leave large packets behind. No acknowledgement from managers of the difference it makes. Meanwhile a lot of the solo duties have a very light workload and no clue what the problem is. CWU not interested/bothered either, leading to a divided workforce - and that makes a weak workforce.GRS wrote:I imagine people are fed up having to get a bus, walk 2 or 3 miles to the start of delivery and back after, cycling out, taking their car out, having to do late start etc etc. Probably fine if you’re the guy who kept your head down at the beginning of all this and didn’t‘volunteer ‘ to try and help out and has smugly driven around you duty on your own for the last 4 months. I think it's simply a case of get used to it and get on with it. Unless a vaccine becomes available (and with the news story yesterday that immunity lasts less than a year, possibly less than half a year, that seems unlikely) then van sharing probably won't return till March/April 2021 at the very earliest.fb1969 wrote:Absolutely this. RM almost certainly have people crunching the numbers of van sharing v non-van sharing and if they find that non-van sharing costs a lot less then van sharing will never return

Cost is all relative though. How much are RM paying out in bus fares, mileage expenses, plus not to mention the time lost to delivery for each person walking out/getting bus/walking between loops. Also the cost of paying out compensation for failed tracked items etc. For each pairing not van sharing they must be losing around 1.5hrs out of 8 (2 people doing 4hrs each) which by reading on here some offices can easily cope with (if you can walk to most duties quickly etc), but many are losing time that they really didn't have to start with, hence some duties lucky to deliver 3, maybe 4 days a week.SpacePhoenix wrote:I think it's simply a case of get used to it and get on with it. Cost can only be balanced if you know all of the potential costs.
At the moment the cost of deliberately exposing the workforce through a change in policy to increased exposure to a potentially deadly virus and the associated legal and financial liability is not a risk the business is willing to take.
Let's not kid ourselves here this isn't about our health it's about protecting the business from the claims guys.
Will it ever be worth the risk again?

If you need to walk to your duty and back, or get buses then if its within your hours whats the problem?
Its up to you to tell management that you will need less workload to compensate for the travelling time - let them sort it out and work your hours
Or are some just annoyed because they are used to finishing an hour early and now cant?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
