Breaks

Hello, Apologys if this has been covered.
How long are the breaks on the different shifts?
That is 3 hour, 4 hour, 5 hour, 6 hour, 7 hour, and 8 hour shifts.
I know these may vary under local agreement but does this agreement cover awr agency workers?
How many are told to take your break at the shift start and what are your thoughts if you are?

As a (very) rough rule if thumb, my MC works in a guideline of ( minutes for every hour for which the shift us scheduled to last.

Breaks are supposed to be just that; not to be taken at the start or end of a shift.

Some units have a tendency to try to make staff take their breaks eat the start of a shift to fit in the workflow patterns.

You CAN refuse to do this but the MC may indicate to Angard that you are an uncooperative worker and you may find yourself with fewer offers if shifts.

If your MC makes a habit if this practice, telephone your Angard consultant to explain what is happening and why it is wrong. They should attempt to liaise with your MC to dissuade this from happening.

I work at Leeds MC
4 hours shifts are 30 mins
5 hours I believe 40
6 is 40/45
7 is 45
8 is 1 hour split into 2 breaks

Also, 2-6 shifts, depending the manager we usually finish on a break, 6-10 shifts usually break is taken at around 7:30 or 8.

If I’m wrong, do correct me but this is based on shifts I’ve done

From my Angard timesheets - the following breaks are applied:

4Hr Shift: 30mins
5Hr-7Hr Shift: 40mins
8Hr Shift: 1Hr

Some managers either ask you to take a shorter break or claim they do not know of the correct amount of time - of course this is all untrue, so you should advise them of the correct duration of the break as agreed between Angard and Royal Mail.

In your first 12 weeks when you are not paid for breaks, Angard automatically deduct the time whether you have had a break or not.

Sometimes you need to remind your manager that you need to take a break!

Wait after 12 weeks you get paid for breaks? I did not know that. Past few wages I have had shortages of around £10-£20 when calculating and I thought this had to do with breaks

Yes, after 12 weeks your hourly rates increase from minimum wage and you get paid for your breaks.

It varies everywhere, The split bits are a 'probable pattern', or I would say 'possible'.Edited it as well.Cheers.

Depends on the site. For us, with the 4 hour shifts you get 30 mins but they don't give you a break.

They just take 30 mins off your shift time so you leave 30 mins earlier
