Because Royal mail save less money by having posties walk to delivery and back or get a bus lots of time wasted also walking to next loops means no lapsing for a lot of them.

Do you think that Royal Mail will bring back shared vans for financial reasons? Not a chance.

Errrr they are a business. They will do whatever makes financial sense, and couldn’t care less posties feelings on 2 in a van.

They are a business that has to look after their staffs welfare first and foremost, or at least be seen to be doing so. The reason it doesn't make financial sense is because a huge amount of offices aren't set up for 1 per van. The 2024 plan, in my view, will be accelerated to achieve this. They've admitted themselves the 2024 plan is being brought forward.
If they manage to get rid of 1 in 6 deliveries it should free up enough cash to get the extra vans so we canwork by ourselves. It's a fact that most people get round quicker working by themselves as well so they will probably get rid of a few more duties to split between everyone

It's going to depend to an extent on the USO review. If RM get allowed to cut the deliveries of flats and letters down, depending on how many days it ends up being, isn't there the risk of RM axing more than 1 in 6 deliveries?
Wonder during the months of there not being any van sharing have Royal Mail realised how much money they are wasting on paying out over time. With uneven loops or partners who would rather sit in a van then go help their partner out, and you end up both being late and both end up claiming over time when you could have finished on time.

Why would they buy/lease more vans when their current fleet sit there for 60-70% of the time doing nothing between 7am-8pm?

I think the opposite
I think van sharing puts posties under more pressure to go fast so their partner isnt waiting
Cant just sit on a wall and have a 5 min break here or there, talk to Mrs Smith for 10 mins when theres another guy relying on you being back at the van same time as him
Think its part of the reason RM brought it in
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
Loads of staff suddenly getting back 1-2 hours then they did working with partners in my office. Mixture of letters on the down and not having to wait for your van partner. Everyone else the same?
The only reason van sharing was introduced was because of the increase in large parcels which meant pouch boxes and bikes were no longer fit for purpose.
If the large parcels and tracked are moved to afternoon deliveries it's going to be difficult to justify the inbuilt inefficiencies of van sharing and having half empty vans running around however we no longer have the capability to effectively transport members to their first delivery points in groups so that's a problem that needs to be resolved. I can't really see bikes coming back but I know RM are looking at the electric cargo trikes.
Whether that's financially viable on a large scale I really don't know but the business does need to make a decision and go with it.

Nothing like it. I'd say 100% of specials, 90% of tracked, 70% of parcels and maybe 60% of mail leaves our office every day.

Some of the people I have worked with over the years do that regardless. If you wanted overtime we probably have half a dozen you could request to work with and you would get it everyday because of it.
