Colleague tested positive

Today we learned a colleague who went off on Tuesday with symptoms has today had his results back and he does indeed have the virus. Back to last Thursday 25th he was coughing and spluttering. Question is does this now mean that all of us who have been well within 2m regularly of him and indeed accepted Jaffa cakes from him on Monday (!) now should get a test? Management don’t want a bar of it and are telling us to carry on as normal. Fact is he’s had 4 days of delivery with Covid which has surely increased the risk to all on his walk, and I for one wouldn’t want to be doing the same. Some of aren’t comfortable with carrying on as normal and want to get tested so as not to increase risk to our loved ones, but again were being told no and we should keep working as normal.

Do we qualify for a test? And should we now isolate?

the Government “Test & Trace” advice is that “If you have had close recent contact with someone who has Coronavirus, you MUST self-isolate.

so surely you do what the staff did at Barnsley DO and walk out.

you should all be tested etc and not go back until the office has had a proper Deep Clean ( not the mop and bucket brigade that first turned up at Barnsley DO )

tests have shown that in supermarkets one person can infect nearly the whole store, DO's will be the same.

That managers advice is the most Head in the sand and irresponsible advice I’ve heard and they should be removed from their post . Self isolate and get tested and advise all others also.

Vehicle Cleaning

Where vehicle cleaning is identified (this will not be undertaken unless against a Positive Coronavirus diagnosis (following testing) has been completed), RM Fleet will arrange for the vehicle(s) in which the affected colleagues who have driven the vehicle to be cleaned.

The vehicle must be left in quarantine until the specialist clean has been undertaken.

After contacting CPC, call RM Fleet central booking helpline and advise of a vehicle that requires cleaning – at the earliest opportunity in order that he work can be planned and suppliers made ready. The booking can be made via RM Fleet on 0345 2660005

RM Fleet’s sub-contractor will be a two-man team and wear enhanced PPE during the cleaning process at a Royal Mail site.

What should I do if an employee receives a positive coronavirus test result?

Should an employee receive a positive test result then the manager will immediately notify Central Postal Control and the Safety, Health and Environment Business Partner who will immediately notify the Health & Wellbeing Team. The Safety, Health and Environment Business Partner will support and guide the manager through required processes in line with Public Health guidelines.

A managers’ guidance pack has been produced for units in this position. Your SHE Business Partner will discuss the content of this with you. This is available on the SHE Coronavirus Document Library.

The government say that only those showing symptoms should take the test. And unfortunately even though you may have been in close contact with someone who has the virus; you are not allowed to self-isolate unless you are either showing symptoms yourself or have received a notification to self-isolate. Google and Apple are getting ready for this, its on mobile phone settings/google already

Companies like Royal Mail that were privileged to work during lockdown went bonkers on hand sanitiser and putting tape down for social distancing. Evidence shows that it was probably too little, too late. Could a company in the future ever be convicted of some form of corporate manslaughter because they knew they had several staff who was off work with positive Covid19 symptoms, yet they still continued to be open for business?? Royal Mail and the CWU have a duty of care for their employees and members. I write this as a factory in Yorkshire has now been closed by Public Health England.

Stay at home for 14 days

If you're told you've been in contact with a person who has coronavirus:

stay at home (self-isolate) for 14 days from the day you were last in contact with the person – it can take up to 14 days for symptoms to appear
do not leave your home for any reason – if you need food or medicine, order it online or by phone, or ask friends and family to drop it off at your home
do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family – except for essential care
try to avoid contact with anyone you live with as much as possible
people you live with do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms
people in your support bubble do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms

I'm guessing, working with Rod Jane or Freddie who has the virus is the same thing and you wouldn't need to WAIT for an email/app notification?

When to self-isolate and what to do
What is self-isolation? Self-isolation is when you stay at home because you have or might have coronavirus (COVID-19).

This helps stop the virus spreading to other people.

Self-isolate if:

you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
you're waiting for a coronavirus test result
you've tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus
you live with someone who has symptoms, is waiting for a test result or has tested positive
someone in your support bubble has symptoms, is waiting for a test result or has tested positive

At present, the guidance is only to self-isolate if: a) someone you live with has symptoms, or b) you’re told to self-isolate by the test and trace service.

There is no guidance to say that people should make their own decision about self-isolating if someone that they work with / know has symptoms / has tested positive for CV19.

Whether or not self-isolation is deemed necessary by the test and trace service will depend on whether you would be considered a ‘close contact’ or not.

Only ‘close contacts’ are being contacted by Test and Trace and being asked to self-isolate.

More distant contacts, which would probably include the majority of people who someone works with in a delivery office / mail centre (given that social distancing measures are supposed to be in place), would not fall into this category, so we wouldn’t normally expect them to need to self-isolate.
