Royal Mail Standards for van delivery

I've never known a rural driver that doesn't have mail in the front of the van or anyone on an urban duty that doesn't leave the pouch on the bicycle. I can only assume that Royal Mail have these totally unpractical rules so that if any mail is stolen it's the postman that can easily be made blaimworthy.

it's a comercial vehicle the load area is the rear not the front. Lets say you have an accident and the tray of mail in the front causes you injurys r.m would then not be culpable. as they themselves do not permit mail to be carried in the front. yes doubtless we have posties that do it but they are not doing the job properly if they opened , locked the van then it's a rather time consuming thing to do so perhaps your job would not be able to be done in the alloted time scale

All i know is that you should always work from the back of the van and always lock the door when you leave the van.
Do not break the speed limit and never cut corners use common sense and you could hang out any delivery even mine!

To that you could also add (when the tester probably a DOM encourages you to put the foot down or engages in meaningless chitchat) - kindly remind them to (zip it - their gobs) as you find it a complete irritation and it is distracting you from keeping your mind on the road ahead.

So if we are not supposed to deliver from the front, how come till about 12 years ago they used to take the passenger seat out of the vans??

Is this so we had extra space for our pack up and flask!!!!

they were even then !!.............. the rules were the same then no mail in the front ! .............. but we had plenty reserve vans in those days

NO mail in the front of the Van end of!
If it gets broken into (Through the windows)and nicked you could be out of a job!

I don't know if it's the same on deliveries, but when I was on collections the route was worked out so that we parked on the same side of the road as the firm/bo/pillarbox that was being collected from. We weren't supposed to cross the road because of H&S.

Thanks for letting me know this, No one in my office even bothered telling me this - then again most of the time you just have to find out these things for yourselves esp at RM!!!
