Most companies are getting rid of big numbers of employees at the moment, why shouldn't royal mail be any different?
They won't be any different, that's kind of my point.
If there are 'x' % of job losses within RM, plenty people would be 'ok' with the job losses if they are safe plus get a Mon-Fri out of it. It's human nature.
Definitely human nature. The local council here needed to make redundancies, they said they’ll either pick people at random to make redundant, or everyone keeps their job but they’ll all be doing 20% fewer hours (and the obviously 20% less pay). It went to a vote, and the staff chose to spin the roulette redundancy wheel.

For the record despite being on only 25 hours I’d accept a drop to 20 hours if it meant me and all my colleagues kept our jobs. Appreciate everyone’s circumstances are different though.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Yes, but that's unrelated.

For a lot of us, no. For the ones that like an 11am finish or ghosting then maybe. They'll be the ones that don't want to clock in/out and they'll be the ones who want to beat the clock.

That aside, biometric recognition isn't as sci fi or Orwellian as people make it seem. If you're using your finger to clock in, you've got one less thing to carry or lose. One less thing for an (ho ho ho) overworked manager to replace 10 of a day. And, obviously, one less excuse to use.

If the powers that be want to use clocking in/out to iron certain things out of the business then they'd be daft not to use something individual to the staff that can't be abused as easily as cards etc.

1. Fingerprint scanners are yesterday's tech, given the issues with coronavirus and touch point cleaning even more so.

2. The fact that most people use the same biometric information to access their phones gives the company a huge information security and liability problem.

3. It would be prohibitively expensive to install in over 1,500 workplaces just to monitor the few who may abuse a card system and since the PDA can already provide that information pretty pointless.

4. It is clearly a precursor to the end of times and the Mark of the Beast.

If the company is hell bent on a time and attendance system, biometric recognition is probably what they'll choose. The costing won't be too different whatever kind they choose. There should be no hygiene issue either because the routine would be set and drilled in to you.

1. Sanitise on entry.
2. Clock in.

Later...

1. Sanitise on entry.
2. Sort notified etc.
3. Sanitise.
4. Clock out.

I just don't get why RM would go to a 5 day week, other delivery companies do 6 or 7 day weeks. We'll be going backwards. People/businesses will choose to use other delivery companies services rather than RM.

We want to compete with Amazon, DHL, DPD..... but not offer a weekend parcel or post delivery?..... utter madness.

I don't think they will go to 5 days for parcels, for mail who knows? Very very little mail for our office today, parcels still heavy which made up the difference

I think RM will be very cautious regarding changes to how we work, for a number of reasons.
They won't want to be locked into a new system that doesn't work, as we all saw what happened on parcel only Saturdays.
I'd expect anything that changes, shift patterns, mail on some days and not others etc, parcels only on some days, will be phased in and have a get out if it doesn't work.

Letters, flats and d2d will probably go down to a 5 day or maybe 4 day week(3 day week possibly?) but everything else will probably go to a 7 day week

What I did notice during the packet only Saturdays is that the duty frames simply aren't designed to cope with packets being sorted into them. Most in our place are double slotted and double dutied already. Anything thicker than a 'graze' box and you can't sort them. Huge change in equipment would be needed.

That's interesting as last Monday was also like that but then it picked up Tuesday and throughout the week. Be interesting to see what it's like today.

Letters were extremely light yesterday, usually takes me 5 hours to do my round (first to last letter) only took just over 3 hours
