Only way to stop that would be for it to use finger prints, then everyone would have to clock themselves in and at the correct timeredneck wrote:Regarding clocking in and out, it is perfectly reasonable to be introducing this if that is what happens, however I will eat my Royal Mail sun hat if local management put the Greggs down and actually monitor it at all. Even centralising it will not work as the enemy within will have their cards put through by helpful linos at the time of asking, such is the outright corruption in this company all in the name of the managerial bonus.

Wasn't that one of the methods they were using when they trialled the electronic sign in/out recently?SpacePhoenix wrote:Only way to stop that would be for it to use finger prints, then everyone would have to clock themselves in and at the correct timeredneck wrote:Regarding clocking in and out, it is perfectly reasonable to be introducing this if that is what happens, however I will eat my Royal Mail sun hat if local management put the Greggs down and actually monitor it at all. Every other system they could come up with could be and has been circumvented. I mean, at the moment only the driver is returning to the office with the P739 items/empty bags etc. However there has been nothing to stop people from doing this in the past.

They used fingerprints in one of my old jobs - countless people "forgot" to clock in when they were late, or out when they left early. I regularly had to manually add in punches both sides of shifts. You could also edit the times incredibly easily.SpacePhoenix wrote: Only way to stop that would be for it to use finger prints, then everyone would have to clock themselves in and at the correct time
Fingerprints are definitely the way forward in my eyes but there are still a fair few ways to con the system, it won't take long for the posties or the management to figure out how they can do it.

Maybe a combination of finger prints and facial recognition? I can't see how a combination of the two could be fooled

Facial recognition will be the same as fingerprints.
You're running 10 minutes late. You don't clock in. No punch entered. You finish 45 minutes early. You don't clock out. No punch entered. You finish an hour over. Needs to be signed off by a manager with a couple of clicks.
Someone (manager) has to sift through all the half punches, early punches and late punches and authorise or not as they wish every day.
Plenty of room for abuse from both sides really. But it's better than a half filled sheet of paper no doubt.

Someone with previous knowledge of finger print signing on/off may be able to answer this. In the winter due to my hands being extremely dry and cracked my phone doesn’t recognise my finger print to access it. As I’m sure I’m not the only one to suffer this how does a finger print system override this problem?

Surely they've already got the 'clocking out' bit sorted now with the Consolidation Scan?
I'm assuming that's a national thing and everyone now has to do it?

You enrol 2 prints when it's set up, just in case. If both of those fingers are FUBAR then your punches need to be manually added every time. (I used to get people to send me a photo of the time on the machine when they started/finished. Not saying that I never got lied to but you can't be there all the time)GRS wrote:Someone with previous knowledge of finger print signing on/off may be able to answer this. Have people been watching too much Star Trek?
Is fraudulent signing in and out really going to be such a major problem that biometric recognition is necessary?
Surely in that case Iris recognition is the Sci-Fi weapon of choice, much more secure than fingerprint and facial and the systems they have now can track and recognise as you move.

Most companies are getting rid of big numbers of employees at the moment, why shouldn't royal mail be any different?Cucumber wrote:Let's be honest, a Monday-Friday job will prove popular for many people that keep their job. There's your 'sweetener'.

They won't be any different, that's kind of my point.rambo1 wrote:Most companies are getting rid of big numbers of employees at the moment, why shouldn't royal mail be any different?Cucumber wrote:Let's be honest, a Monday-Friday job will prove popular for many people that keep their job. If there are 'x' % of job losses within RM, plenty people would be 'ok' with the job losses if they are safe plus get a Mon-Fri out of it. It's human nature.
