MRM.COM : Safeplace extended to include Royal Mail 24 and 48 Standard parcels

Post by Woody Guthrie »

Do not fly is a delivery instruction not a safeplace instruction. It relates to items that have restrictions over travelling in non pressurised holds, items like lithium batteries and aerosols.

The fact that sometimes it appears in the safeplace instructions window seems to be a glitch depending on how some retailers set up the option box on their online checkout.

Does it mean the customer has a safe place which no doubt the duty holder knows about although that’s no good to reserves who might be doing it for the first time?

Or does it mean to find a safe place?

To clarify: I don’t mean the ones which say ‘safe place; leave in shed’ I know fully well what that means.
I understand this as an item needing to be put in a good safe place, probably something with a higher value.
Ive had them for properties where there is no chance of finding a safe place, so its more to do with the sender not wanting it to be doorstepped.
The customer has to tell you where the Safeplace is, it should be inputted online and show on the label where it says Safeplace. Very few labels show a Safeplace so 739 it is :mad

Generally "Do not fly" isn't a delivery instruction either. It's basically to do with the longer distance runs between MCs that get done by Skynet. For stuff leaving the UK it'll mainly be airmail and international tracked, tracked and signed (maybe signed as well)

It's a delivery instruction from the sender to Royal Mail.

I don't think they're meant to be 'do not fly'.
I think it's a glitch.

No it's not a delivery instruction :cuppa

It's an instruction to how RM should treat it between when it leaves the outward MC to when it arrives at the inward MC. Come on then, how many runs between the inward MC and a DO are there that are transported in a pressurised plane?? :cuppa

It's an instruction to how RM should treat it between when...to when
Pretty much the definition of a delivery instruction.
Delivery is not just the final act of handing over the item.

Delivery and processing (which is what MCs are) are two completely separate functions. The clue is in the name

But the parcel or the sender neither knows or cares about that.....
