On my travels today.
Heard there was a very interesting CWU Conference Call today for Divisional Reps.
Rumour hasit. It's really bad.

Statutory redundancy is around £13000 for a 60 year old with 40 years service. Where does 2 years full pay come from?Chelseablue wrote:2 yrs full pay is peanuts if theres no jobs to go to

The talks are confidential.
It was one of the conditions of getting RM back around the table.
The language both the union and the business have been using in their comms and LTBs lately seems to suggest they are preparing us for difficult choices but nobody knows yet what if anything will come from the talks and what changes are coming.
Common sense should tell us though that they won't be good. That's about the only certainty.

No it's not.Cucumber wrote:Statutory redundancy is around £13000 for a 60 year old with 40 years service. Where does 2 years full pay come from?Chelseablue wrote:2 yrs full pay is peanuts if theres no jobs to go to
A 60 year old with 40 years service would have
1 week for every year up to age 41=21 weeks.
1.5 weeks for every week age 41-60 = 29 weeks.
That's 50 weeks pay or around £22,000 basic for full time.
MTSF gives you a multiplier of 3.75 but unfortunately it's capped at 104 weeks.

These are based on an employee’s age and length of employment and are counted back from the date of dismissal.
Employees get:
- 1.5 weeks’ pay for each full year of employment after their 41st birthday
- A week’s pay for each full year of employment after their 22nd birthday
- Half a week’s pay for each full year of employment up to their 22nd birthday
Length of service is capped at 20 years and weekly pay is capped at £538. The maximum amount of statutory redundancy pay is £16,140.

Simple, can all be done Digitally. Give it 5 years there’ll probably be a feature on the PDA (which will still crash when it rains!) whereby complaints and training videos are sent straight to it. Or some kind of zoom application with a manager talking to you directly asking what you did with so and so’s parcel.Cucumber wrote:So some staff effectively never even coming into the office? Ever? How's that to work with WTL, or even customer complaints/conduct?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

No matter how bad the news is, like I’ve said for the past 6 months all I want is to keep my job.
I’ll cope if I’m put on the afternoon shift, I’ll survive if all overtime is stopped, I’ll manage if rounds are made even bigger; I’ve only got 10 years to go.
I just want a job, even if it’s simply 25 hours as per my contract.

I really don't understand people's concerns with a reduction in the USO.. yes it would result in job losses, but I confidently predict there will be posties queuing outside the DOM's door for even the most basic VR offers, even in these ''uncertain times''
I actually doubt RM will even need to offer huge levels of VR's to get rid of staff anyway, they could achieve the required number of staff reductions just through 'natural wastage' over the course of 1-2 years.
If people really want to keep working for RM then they should support a reduction in the USO as it will be one way to ensure the company is more efficient, more competitive and more profitable.

That would require a HUGE improvement in the hardware, software and server capability of our PDA's and computer systems which are barely fit for purpose in their current very limited role.HTPostman wrote:
I can see big changes which will be the final straw for some staff. Things like no set duty, a computer uses the data for that day to decide how much you take, it could download to your PDA everything that has to be delivered that day (Specials/Tracked) plus any streets which haven’t had a delivery for the last X days, so putting your daily work in priority order.

Awaiting the review decision by Ofcom, due this year, this should clarify whether a 6 day USO is sustainable.

You would think that would be delayed due to exceptional circumstancesrogersh wrote:Awaiting the review decision by Ofcom, due this year, this should clarify whether a 6 day USO is sustainable.
If this crisis has proved anything it's that when most things shut down people still rely on the postal service to deliver even if it's not been a regular service

There is only one reason the review into the USO was brought forward and that was because it had to be at the companys request. OFCOM would have no reason to bring it forward otherwise.
I've been predicting for quite a while that when the review happens the first thing to go will be Saturday mail delivery. However I think this pandemic has been good for RMs case when we take into consideration the losses the company will have made. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that we are losing Saturdays and rural are moving to alternate days.
And for the posts above. The new route manager program will eventually have the ability to predict what you need to take out that day based on traffic.
