Let's be honest, a Monday-Friday job will prove popular for many people that keep their job. There's your 'sweetener'.

whats going on ?
I’m not in the know (are any of us?) but I keep going back to the RM propaganda about there will be a job here for everyone who *wants* to work for RM.
I can see big changes which will be the final straw for some staff. Things like no set duty, a computer uses the data for that day to decide how much you take, it could download to your PDA everything that has to be delivered that day (Specials/Tracked) plus any streets which haven’t had a delivery for the last X days, so putting your daily work in priority order.
Every minute will have to be worked so no more flyers, no more coming in an hour early so you can finish an hour early to pick up your kids from school. Possibly a change of hours - RM now know a lot of us are able to work 1pm till 6pm without much difficulty (reports of some FT staff having to work 12 while 8!). Wouldn’t be surprised to see the job eventually become 9 to 5 with you doing collections on the way back to the DO at the end of the round. 11am to 4pm for PT staff who start and finish out on the street. An end to overtime.
Not sure it will be survival of the fittest, more like survival of who can adapt to the changes.
All my predictions of course.

So some staff effectively never even coming into the office? Ever? How's that to work with WTL, or even customer complaints/conduct?

Union leaders are not concerned with trivial probems you or anyone else is facing at present.... They are focused on 'The cusp of something special part two'.... Coming soon to a Facebook video near you.

whats going on ?
The problem is that RM were struggling before the pandemic hit.Letters are on the decline and the problem with that is that the revenue from letters is higher than the revenue from packets. RM will have to change the way it works there is no doubting that. The revenue/profit from one letter equals that of three packets or more.It costs far more to move and deliver packets than it does letters. If the CWU agreed to put Monday to Friday to the members do you really think the vast majority would reject that I doubt it. Couple that with 15,000 VR's and no compulsory redundancies and I think it would be accepted. The focus of RM will be to pick up more of the packet delivery market and duties will be planed to deal with that. I am not saying that I agree with it but that seems the way it would go. We all have difficult times ahead in this business but I guess looking around at what is going on with huge job losses in other industries securing full time employment in RM must be a priority. All this has to be done with the agreement of the members of course and I am not saying we should roll over. There has to be a agreement that protects the members that remain in RM. It has to protect pay and full time employment and raise the hours of all the part timers to full time if they want it. The rest will be up for negotiation.
