haha great argument there, all im saying is ...for what some people do in royal mail they get a friggin exceptional wage! I personally think its laughable what my job entails to the wage i get paid, money for nowt, think you would walk into an unskilled job similarly paid for similar workload?? NO CHANCE!

so what are you implying that all posties are lazy. The reason we get paid, have holidays, H/S at work and the right to strike is because workers in the past have had to fight for the very rights you are bemoaning now. The bosses cannot be trusted to look after us so we have to do it. Are you saying that we should stop asking for more money to feed our families because Leighton and Crozier can't afford it. GET REAL! We do a mundane boring thankless task that is the envy of the world, well it was until L and C got hold of it. Now if your talking about your own standards and your feeling guilty about drawing your wages, I believe that you should resign and find yourself a job in the private sector. When you get there and you're flogging your guts out for pitance you will be wishing that the trade unions had as much say in the private sector as they do in the public sector. I have worked for TNT so if you want to I can give you a reference.

No not all of them are lazy, but a LOT are and take the piss. Also do you have any idea of the implications of a strike at this stage? Have you witnessed the growth of DSA taking our business away, are you aware that big contracts were lost PURELY because of the last national strike we had ,and do you know that certain BIG companies we still carry for are already making plans for giving competitors our mail if we strike again, those customers wont come back after! This isnt the 80's people. the country wont grind to a halt anymore cause we all walk out, there are MANY MANY people sat rubbing their hands together waiting for this strike, DEF NOT THE ANSWER THIS TIME IM AFRAID. Believe it or not but we dont have the advantage anymore with threats like this, RM do. They will let us strike trust me they are not gonna give in if we return a yes vote. This is gonna get ugly, bottom line is people YOU work for RM who pay your wages and ill say it again YOU COULDNT GET A JOB LIKE THIS IF YOU WALKED OUT TOMORROW. If you could then go do it, go get a better job with better pay. A lot of you still live in the past. NO MONOPOLY NOW PEOPLE!!!

Still to see other postmen except RM ones in my area and would doubt that I would ever see them, even the police go mob handed into the estate I deliver to.

To be honest you may have a point but we have to do something when the pay offer even without the strings attached is actually a pay cut - my line has been crossed so I voted Yes - yours has not so you vote no its quite simple really.

Lets start with the figures that RM are spouting about. DSA has lost RM money but during the last 5 years 30,000 jobs have disappeared. Postcomm state that we still handle over 94% of all mails in this country. Postcomm have allowed stamp price rises, the Government are giving 1.3 Bn to RM. Have you noticed something, yes we are not that skint. We should be monopolising not shrinking the business. Leighton and Crozier are a bit like capital adventurers cutting compaines up so that they can be sold off peicemeal. I work harder now than I did when I first joined, don't mind that but I do take exception to Leighton and Crozier saying 1 year I am crap, the next, I've done really well and now this year if I don't swallow I'm F--KED. We are not Luddites, we know there are changes to be had, but it needs to be structured and not on the whim of the 2 idiots we have in charge at present. I do work for Royal Mail and I am a public servant, it does not mean that I should allow this public service to become the postal service for big business. The public put the money into this service not them.

My view on all this new way of working stuff , like later starts, summer lapsing etc, is that it will come in eventually but I will not let Adam and Al impose it without first listening to the workers who have to do it. They are trying to ride rough shod over us because they think they know best, thats they best way to make a company fail.

Stop talking Adam and Al and starting listening.

I agree with the comments of yours on a MC bases!! As i think SOME of the workers/nonworkers on duty in MC's are lazy.. Because Of Poor selection of Mngrs and poor selection and training of Posties.. And more so from RM in down grading the job and employing idiots and non people who only want a quick hand out with out learning the job as we used to!! NO MORE PHG'S NO MORE PRIDE IN THE JOB.. BECAUSE RM DONT WANT THIS.. DONT WANT QUALITY.. ONLY WANT QUANTITY AND A PERSON WHO WILL DO AS THEY SAY, WITH NO MIND OF UNIONS OR RIGHTS. JUST YES BOSS NO BOSS!!!
This is the MC you talk about and this is the reason for it!!! RM's RACE TO THE BOTTOM!!!! BEEN SAID BEFORE WILL BE SAID AGAIN BY ME!!!

Everything is simplifide but no knowledge is keep back.. A chucking the baby out with the bath water action has happened on purpous!!!

RM are to blame as are the CWU in not challenging this, as the CWU HQ only want numbers and people on side. The days of CLOSED SHOP are long gone!!!

We now stand with people who will stab you and me in the back for 1 hr O/T. We stand together with people who have other jobs (ag's) can take our O/T away. thanks to European laws that RM and CWU agree to, funny enough??? Good for some not for other laws!!!

Local help is all we can really trust... Local CWU members with a tightness of Burslem and Longton.. And many others that are about!!! But if we are not careful we are destined to be beaten by ourselves.. RM wont have to do a thing more, Just sit back and watch!!!

Lets get a grip together and stand as one but get your local then area then national reps HQ involved after we know where we are going.. The All out strike was a dangerous game to play and we played it well so far.. No one want to lose all pay no one can.. But its something to show RM that WE MEAN BUSINESS!!!! Give big al enough rope n lets hope he hangs himself!!!

I dont get ya........ One the one hand agreeing with me then an about turn snide?

1st off let me say ive had support in PM's already agreeing 100% with me but maybe they dont wanna enter an argument in an actual thread i dunno. Anyway... someone said earlier there will be no other postmen on the street ever??? Think again my friend TNT have plans on the go for this year in a few more places with a view for a lot more places to follow!!! (that from a reliable source). We are not as untouchable as some of you think you know.

Someone asked if i have worked in a do, yes during my time as a PHG reserve years ago i got loaned out to the d.o. to do the business response duty on a morning and its a different world in a d.o. i agree and said so earlier in the thread, its the dead wood in processing i was addressing and the complete misguidance of some people in thinking its 10 years ago and we have a monopoly on the mail and a strike will cripple the country making them beg for us to go back, which just isnt true anymore!!!

Still tho i imagine my views would be the same, its still an unskilled job and isnt rocket science and you cant demand the earth for delivering a few letters, you think you could walk out and work for amato delivering leaflets and get the same money for doing pretty much the same job??

Whos demanding the earth?Its royal mails business plan which is concerning the union friend,lets start with pay does it mean because we are unskilled we deserve peanuts?I agree pay is not that bad for what we do but we still need to keep up with inflation and any rise should at least match or better it.Also look at what they want peolpe to do,absorb sick,d2d for nothing,work in teams,remove nights,absorbe 6 summer walks in to 5 and all the other bits and bobs what they want to introduce,would you be happy to do all that friend for working a 40 hour 5day week.I dont mind working to my time and doing a little bit extra ,but NOT what there thinking of.The union know things have to change ,and as you said in previous post lazy people down to bad management who let them do sod all,i dont know what its like in a mail center never worked in one,deliverys are different yes there are days when we finish before our duty time and theres days when we work to it or past,it depends on the workload and thats where the balance is you take the rough with the smooth imho,alot of delivery office run on the GOODWILL of the staff,come in early e.t.c.maybe its time people STOPED doing that and worked as they should and not cutting corners all the time to get an early finish,could be a different story then.

Some good points though what you mention about other things and i think the union know this as well and thats what its all about how we deal with competition and times are a changing.
