mail centers done em selves up

I work in a MC and voted no, and I know that a lot of the people I work with did also.

No hard feelings, I think we are all a little disgruntled.

Well I work in a Mail centre and I voted no and as has been said a hell of a lot of mail centre staff voted likewise...To the point of MC jobs not being secure...Right now no one's job is secure, mail centre staff and delivery staff alike...If they reduce the staff in MC's when they implement new machinery, you'll see the knock on on the deliveries with them trying to push "buy downs" to reduce the hours in the DO's and more and more part time contracts...They'll eventually try the same in MC's too, as in my particular MC's they've all ready got some "buy downs" working here now.

As for who swayed the vote one way or the other? I've no idea if it was the MC's or the Delivery lads...Most likely it was your short timers and part time contracts, your AG's and LA's that helped put it through...It's now up to us at a local level to try and make sure we don't get stuffed any further...An uphill struggle, you bet it will be, with the style of management we'll see now, but do we give up on it...I hope not. Doesn't matter who swayed the vote, we're all in this together and the only way we'll get out of it is together.

There's no point in apportioning blame. The vote is in and it's que sera sera. Deliveries are going to be hit hard. We've already experienced the part time syndrome where all contracts are 25 or less hours and the shortfall is made up in overtime - and there are plenty of takers because who can maintain a family on part time wages. There isn't going to be a drift of workers from MCs to DOs as part of the flexibility because as the workload in the DO increases it is generally going to come from the MCs, particularly packets. The future mechanisation of MCs will be where the job losses occur. So although working conditions in DOs are going to deteriorate, there will probably be an increase in staff. Network drivers I would have thought are going to be the ones who will be the first to go. The beginning of the process of piecemeal privatisation - it IS coming - the calf is being fatted and the wolves are in the wings.

I think it'll be the managers and linos who'll go first because :cfo :lfo don't really need them in such numbers anymore.
