if he is taking any mail or parcels in his car then hes driving illegally with no insurance, the cover is only for transport to the first drop.

Thanks. I've tried to explain this to him but has fallen on deaf ears. Obviously now leaves me in a pickle though as I've now got to cover his duty while he's off and all I have is a trolly to take mail, packets and bulk while trying to explain to the manager that it's not feasible.

If you have been using the van, then it's your to keep using surely?

The van is used by another postie (my job is to cover A/L) so this is where my problem lies.

The problem is the other guy has been using his car to deliver mail. Seriously, don't do it. I know that you have been put in this position, but there is zero chance that the manager doesn't know what's going on here. Simply ask manager how you and the mail are getting to the duty next week.
