Don’t know why people would wanna go back to van share personally.Much better working solo and think split shifts are the way forward as long a 1pm special delivery doesn’t return
Yeah I've definitely found it more efficient working solo, as well as less stressful, not having to keep watching the time to get back to your partner for the next loop etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to see social distancing axed completely everywhere within a month. There will be many firms in many industries around the UK where it's probably not financially viable for them to open whilst social distancing is in place

If they axe social distancing there will be a second wave of infection, another lockdown and these industries won't have an industry to come back to.

Is 45000-50000 deaths not enough?

It doesn't matter how financially viable social distancing is the alternative is much, much worse.

If you get too many people out of work, you get a big cut in tax revenue, combined with the increase in debt, there'd have to be massive cuts all round, less money for the NHS, etc

Lots of talk about second spike etc when measures are relaxed but very little data to support this theory in European countries who have gone back to some form of normality. VE day for example was a few weeks ago and involved loads of people failing to social distance and mass gatherings. Everyone warned about a spike in infections. Never materialised.

I was under the impression there was a spike in positive tests announced yesterday of just over 4000. Roughly double the daily figure since VE Day.

Nope, 2000 new cases yesterday Vs 2500 last Tuesday. Numbers are also generally higher on Tuesdays also as there is a lag in reporting figures on weekends

I know how an economy works but you're still not addressing the alternative.

Since you're obsessed with finances look at it this way, companies have lost a great deal of money over the last few months due to social distancing, many people have already lost their jobs, the government have invested eye-watering amounts of debt trying to keep these businesses solvent and protect as many of these jobs as possible , companies and public services are currently spending a huge amount of money adapting their businesses to deal with social distancing. Knocking down walls, putting in perspex screens and buying up larger premises.

Do you honestly believe a Tory government would encourage that amount of disruption and cost if the real science (not the ropey opinion of posties) didn't see the absolute necessity of some form of social distancing?

There is no real science behind for example the 2 metre rule. We are the only country which does it. Even the WHO recommends less

Extra lag this week with the Bank Holiday, will be interesting to see what the figures are like later

There are masses of scientific studies going back to the 1930s that show the distance of droplet dispersal during coughing and sneezing. It's all real science and that's what the 2m distance is based on.

Even the WHO recommends less
The WHO doesn't recommend less, nobody recommends less social distancing, that would be stupid.

The WHO recommends that 1m should be the bare minimum just like we accept that the 2m distance cannot always be maintained. What governments understand is that if you set the guidelines at 2m you'll probably average about 1.5m in most realistic situations especially in a densely populated country like the UK.

Untrue.

2m social distancing is the guidance in Italy, Spain, Switzerland UK and US
1.5m in Germany, The Netherlands, Poland
1m in Austria, Finland, Norway, Sweden

The WHO recommends 1m as a minimum, however it is the scientific opinion that exposure for 1-2 minutes at a distance of 1m carries a similar risk to exposure for 1-2 hours at 2m.
