Social distancing... Possible changes?
2m distancing in the workplace is here to stay for at least the rest of 2020, can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?

It's not the entire union, it's certain very vocal areas that have 4 day weeks and scheduled attendance to protect.can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?
The Divisional Reps covering these areas know that the Divisional Rep that kills the golden goose commits career suicide and these Divisional Reps are very close to the National Officers, almost breaking social distancing guidance at times.

That's a scary thought that these things are coming before making members safer, if i'm reading that correctly.Woody Guthrie wrote:It's not the entire union, it's certain very vocal areas that have 4 day weeks and scheduled attendance to protect.can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?

Think the main reasons why they would be hesitant to endorse it is once staggered starts are in would there be any going back? Also how to implement it fairly?Cucumber wrote:2m distancing in the workplace is here to stay for at least the rest of 2020, can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?
May be wrong but i don't think redundancies are on the cards, the work is definitely here it's just getting it out the door is the problem
You can volunteer to start later and social distance if you feel unsafe

Safety trumps that I reckon. The argument where someone wanting (not critically needing) to keep their current attendance times is more important than 2m distancing shouldn't even be entertained in my view.A2B wrote:Think the main reasons why they would be hesitant to endorse it is once staggered starts are in would there be any going back? I agree but you "should" already be able to have your 2m distance in your office, that's what's causing some walks to fail, ie less people packet sorting and on IPS and single vans. Staggered starts while helping with social distancing is more about getting the work deliveredCucumber wrote:Safety trumps that I reckon. No, it is about ensuring there is a maximum amount of bodies in the building at any given time. Yes, layouts can be changed, but that is only part of the solution. Every building has a limited footprint and given that, maintaining a minimum of 2m spacing is extremely difficult, if not impossible when the staff are all in building at the same time.A2B wrote:I agree but you "should" already be able to have your 2m distance in your office, that's what's causing some walks to fail, ie less people packet sorting and on IPS and single vans. if the airlines start up their holiday plans (June has been mentioned) then they are effectively confirming that 'social distancing' is no longer an issue. this being the case, you can bet your boots RM will follow suit.Cucumber wrote:2m distancing in the workplace is here to stay for at least the rest of 2020, can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?

It will be your choice if you get on a plane totally different from being forced to share a vandaveyeff wrote:if the airlines start up their holiday plans (June has been mentioned) then they are effectively confirming that 'social distancing' is no longer an issue. this being the case, you can bet your boots RM will follow suit.Cucumber wrote:2m distancing in the workplace is here to stay for at least the rest of 2020, can someone tell my why the union wouldn't support staggered attendances if it meant a safe working environment with little/no redundancies?

the thing is though. you can't social distance on a plane. and i can't for the life of me see them stopping crowds returning to the football games or not being allowed in the pubs. so effectively social distancing will in most likelyhood be scrapped in the next couple of months.

With social distancing, double decker buses can only hold about a maximum of about 20 people when without social distancing they could hold something like 100 passengers. That's not sustainable in the long term, similar with trains and trams, again, not sustainable in the long term

well exactly. they can't and probably wont keep it up. if there is no gate receipts from football, players wages won't be sustainable. the clubs will be ruined. bar and restaurants, bus companies, train companies, airlines are all going to go to the wall. i can see them scrapping it in the next couple of months. unless of course we get a dreaded second wave. then we are ALL f****d.SpacePhoenix wrote:With social distancing, double decker buses can only hold about a maximum of about 20 people when without social distancing they could hold something like 100 passengers. When the kids go back to school (probably be September) they'll all have to either walk, ride a bike or be dropped off in a car as there won't be any school buses. The ones where the schoolbuses are coaches won't be available as the coach companies will have probably ceased trading and where they're normally buses, they won't be available as the bus companies will need them for normal services (and some normal routes will probably get axed due to not having enough buses)daveyeff wrote:well exactly. they can't and probably wont keep it up. if there is no gate receipts from football, players wages won't be sustainable. the clubs will be ruined. bar and restaurants, bus companies, train companies, airlines are all going to go to the wall. i can see them scrapping it in the next couple of months. unless of course we get a dreaded second wave. then we are ALL f****d.SpacePhoenix wrote:With social distancing, double decker buses can only hold about a maximum of about 20 people when without social distancing they could hold something like 100 passengers. What time scale do people mean by long term?
Short term, at least until 2021 in my view single van drivers and the problems that come with it will remain.
The company seem happy enough with how it's working, on the whole.

its working? not in ours or nearby offices. people are coming in at 03.30 to sort packets. duties have them piled all around their frames. others are coming later, there are duties failing EVERY single day. some not going out for 4 or 5 days!! D2Ds remain strewn all over the office undelivered. people using their own cars to go out on delivery. the place is an absolute shambles. even the DOM has now said the job is cattle trucked in this format.
