I asked our DO manager why we can't hire more vans now that we must be making a significant profit due to the vast increase in parcels, but he still insisted that Royal Mail are still losing money on a daily basis so that's why we have to use our own cars to stay on our walks! (Needless to say I refused and am now on parcels for the foreseeable future)

You will be sacked if anything is stolen or lost when you have had mail dumped at your home. Good luck with that. Royal mail will love you to bis though while it all goes well.mags999 wrote:what about working from home where you get the mail dropped off at your house is there any issues with that anything that keeps you less stressed in these times has to be a good thing and that includes using private cars just get on with it and stop the policing let people make there own judgement calls on whether they feel safe doing what there doing .

Things will never change.themailman wrote:I'd have thought after the breakdown in relations we saw 10 days ago that people currently using cars would have come to their senses.
It really is about dangling the carrot in front of people and them having little ability to say no.
As for 'temporary', let's see how that pans out.
Rico could fly in by private jet tomorrow, stand up on a stack of empty trays in your local DO and tell us unless we all take our break that day he’ll remove them and we can do triple lapsing instead. You’ll still have people rushing out on delivery not taking a break.
A manager could give someone their 1 week notice then ask if they’d mind using their car for the rest of the week and they still would.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

themailman wrote:You cant 'work from home' delivering mail though. Your home is not a sorting office/storage point. The way to cut indoor numbers is to stagger start time, and cut overtime.mags999 wrote:that's what the government rule is work from home if you can do it to relieve numbers in the office or where ever you work
There are a few postie's working from home at our office. They meet the postie at the start of the first loop and then have to walk to the next loop when they have finished. They were asking the full time postie's to work their day off to make up the hours that they didn't do indoors sorting, which didn't go down very well! A few of them decided to roll up at work at 7 and either get the bus out or go out in their own car. So much for social distancing eh??
The ones going out at 1pm are the unlucky ones that have probably had no say in the matter. In the morning I often find that there's either mail left in the frame or 2 or 3 bags of mail that have come back.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
