Per the attached guidance posted on "myroyalmail" -- seriously are Posties actually doing this? Do they receive any form of compensation for this? Why would they voluntarily do this? Beggars belief?

Temporary controls – use of private cars to get to delivery points
Further to previous communications covering the use of private cars to reach delivery points, we have now extended this arrangement to cover workers who do not normally drive a Royal Mail van.
This means that the non-driving partner on a shared duty can use their own car to drive to the first delivery point and along the route, where required. Where this is applicable, drivers will be subject to the same licence checking, health declaration and training arrangements, as are temporarily in place for driving Royal Mail vans.
Temporary controls for the use of private vehicles on delivery have been introduced and should be read in full here.
These controls apply to any private vehicle used to get to delivery points, and in order that we comply with our legal requirements to ensure the safety of our employees, it is important that all of these controls are followed. However, in particular, please follow these requirements:
This is limited to the use of private cars or vans – the use of motorcycles, cycles, e-scooters etc, is not permitted.
Mail must not be carried in private vehicles.
Drivers must have been trained, either on-road (for existing drivers) or using the temporary e-learning product.
The usual vehicle checks must be completed.
Collisions in private vehicles on delivery must be reported using the usual ERICA process and investigated following the usual Road Traffic Accident Procedure Agreement applicable to your business unit.

You get paid mileage. The main benefit will be not having to go back to the depot at the end.

what about working from home where you get the mail dropped off at your house is there any issues with that anything that keeps you less stressed in these times has to be a good thing and that includes using private cars just get on with it and stop the policing let people make there own judgement calls on whether they feel safe doing what there doing .

What happens if your house was burgled and mail was stolen or a few people decide to deny recieving stuff as they are no longer signing?mags999 wrote:what about working from home where you get the mail dropped off at your house is there any issues with that anything that keeps you less stressed in these times has to be a good thing and that includes using private cars just get on with it and stop the policing let people make there own judgement calls on whether they feel safe doing what there doing .
Is the Royal Mail cover not only third party? What if you don't want to use your car at all, are you being awkward? Or your car breaks down, is that excusable for failing mail? Would be hard to implement in some offices, some of our vanshare loops are designed to finish nowhere close to where they began.

yip everything is a mess at the minute that's why which ever way you are working you are doing royal mail a favour so if any accidents or mishaps were to happen you would expect them to be dealt with extreme leniency but who knows

That sums it up, it's not your problem that royal mail won't hire any vans, especially now they don't have to due to loads of posties using their own carsDindin wrote:Don't use your car

We shouldn’t even be working until it is safe, other countries stopped for 2 weeks or more there postal services when there death toll was far less than here, it just sums up,the greed of the Royal Mail and this government wealth before health

What stress i actually think its easier,no partner, signing yourself,no sd time limit,no overtime in my office anyway so finish on time, let the managers worry about the letters etc thats what they are paid for, your not forced to take your car the onus is on them to sort traveling arrangments.mags999 wrote:sadly once 1 or 2 started using them everyone else said sod this so am I and who can blame them if it takes the stress out of it lets hope its only temporary

How many idiots on here will be using their own cars to do more work?
Here's an idea, catch the bus or walk to your delivery and have less time on delivery.

Any postie using own car on delivery is a complete fool & playing right into the hands of Rico, your own car should never be used, just work the hours your paid & let managers worry about arranging transport to start of delivery, perhaps when an accident happens & you find your insurance premium rises the penny will drop
