There are a couple notable posters on here who are conveniently not addressing the fact that RM and Rico only changed their tune and addressed the issue after the threat of IA.
In addressing your point I'm not married to any particular theory, I'm just not the kind of person who blindly follows anyone without thinking for myself.
If you seriously believe that RM and Rico changed their tune after the threat of IA that's up to you, the fact that it's completely out of character for the man seems to have passed you by but you're entitled to your opinion, it's not a case of me not addressing that it's just that I don't think you've made a coherent argument worth addressing and basically I don't believe it's true. That's my opinion.

The reason things changed was government intervention

I think that's a far more likely explanation.tucker12345 wrote:The reason things changed was government intervention
It also explains the sudden willingness to schedule talks rather than the usual default position of running to the courts as a response to the threat of IA.
What will actually come of those talks who knows but it might be a good idea to get them going as soon as possible while the government is still in firefighting mode.

I understand you completely but it’s not going unopposed is it. Do you think Rico wanted to write that letter the other day and agree to talk. When all is said and done and when they look back on this in the middle of next week and work out the figures they will see what a disaster it has been. They need to get in the bloody room and talk, most of us will agree that change is constant and change is needed, what needs to change is the ego’s on both sides of the table.postslippete wrote:We are between a rock and a hard place right now. My heart feels that we will need to strike because the company is quite literally doing what it wants unopposed, but, my head is telling me to keep calm and go through these 'interim' changes begrudgingly.
As frustrating as it is,it's really not the right time to do battle with our employer head on by calling a strike.

Dave Ward said in the opening explanation of the emergency statement, 1st May, he had spoken to government.Woody Guthrie wrote:I think that's a far more likely explanation.tucker12345 wrote:The reason things changed was government intervention

Everything is falling down around the governments ears at the moment due to the effect of social distancing. We are a key factor in keeping the car on the road so it does look like they stepped in to inject a little common sense.

They stepped in to ward off the potential threat of I/A.

Looking at some of the mail centres and offices with mech mail being sorted and being put aside for Monday, I think the congestion in most offices will be catastrophic for social distancing.
It's bad now but looks like it might be a manic Monday.

Is there anything that can now prevent Rico going to the Gov when this pandemic is done and dusted and saying 'we trialled this during the worst possible time and we proved it worked. If you amend the USO to a 5-day week we can cut 20K jobs and massively reduce overheads. How about it?'
Rico has what he wanted, hasn't he - a trial period?

Its not worked in all offices though, and remember yesterday we had full staff, going forward their will only be half staff so things will be very different this coming sat..south London postie wrote:Is there anything that can now prevent Rico going to the Gov when this pandemic is done and dusted and saying 'we trialled this during the worst possible time and we proved it worked. It's hard to see it as anything other than a trial mostly because he's now put an end date of 13th June on it.south London postie wrote:Rico has what he wanted, hasn't he - a trial period?
If it was to address staff shortages you wouldn't put a definite end to it right at the point where annual leave begins to seriously ramp up. Perhaps he believes the worst of the Coronavirus disruption will be over by then or perhaps he intends to use 'summer lapsing' to replace the resource but I don't think this is really a business requirement issue.
I think it's just a precursor for things to come.
