You get the rest day of the duty you are covering if not see your rep if you are spare then you can bet its Saturday. If someone wants Saturday then they can not knock you off if you are covering them on their original rest day once again if they try to see your rep.ArthurPewty wrote:So if your a P/T'er who has basically worked every Saturday since dinosaurs roamed the earth and had been told in the week you are now working Monday-Friday, you can tell them to do one and come in on Saturdays and insist on a day off in the week?

Frustrating isn’t it? Never ever get a Saturday off until now. Still, I’ll take it - no OT on a Saturday at my office so I’d only get my 5 hours. Much rather have the Saturday and Sunday off then most weekdays be allowed a small amount of OT.ArthurPewty wrote:So if your a P/T'er who has basically worked every Saturday since dinosaurs roamed the earth and had been told in the week you are now working Monday-Friday, you can tell them to do one and come in on Saturdays and insist on a day off in the week?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Or they could have been sensible and sent them a couple of days earlier.RTP wrote:Glad some common sense has prevailed...well it has, but it hasn't.
Postie has to deliver to an address tomorrow.
It's a little childs birthday. Lets call her Isabelle.
Isabelle has been stuck in lockdown for nearly 6 weeks. Not seen her friends or grandparents, not able to go to the park etc.
Can't have a proper kids birthday party. Lockdown and all that.
Still at least she has her Mum, Dad and Brother.
Saturday morniing arrives and Isabelle is eagerly awaiting the postman to see what he brings.
There is a knock on the door. She is excited and screams "the postman is here"
The door is opened and the postman is stood some distance away,..."look mum, there's a parcel."
"Does the postman have any birthday cards for me?"
Hmm.... "sorry Isabelle, but you will have to wait until Monday to see."

Maybe some depots are off on Saturdays.Thommo44 wrote:The public are under the impression we are having Saturdays off with pay??
So much for treating us all equally.
Some dude has stated on here that his depot is only working 3 day weeks.

While you state that your office has been clearing every day, what about your Mail Centre or the RDC?citypostie wrote:
Total opposite to my office. We had cleared every day until today. After prepping the packets/parcels for the rounds it was obvious the only way to deliver was by doing the loops as normal because there where more packets in the frame today compared to letters on Monday. Most people only took 1 delivery out but most brought some of that back. So Monday as well as double mail there will be a mountain of packet and parcels from today.
No overtime is being paid next week so by Tuesday we will have joined all the other offices with a backlog. Ridiculous really for an office with no one on sick or isolating since about 4 weeks ago.
Whoever dreamt up this plan needs sacking. It will never work with 50% staff so I'm guessing they aren't actually bothered if it works or not
Maybe your office has cleared because the backlog hasn't reached you, it is stuck elsewhere in the pipeline.
Recently our collection drivers had 35 yorks of packets that wouldn't fit on the lorry that collects.I have never seen such a bulk out.
Online retailers have been complaining of delays of up to 2 weeks of stuff they are sending.
Clearly there has been a massive increase in parcels coupled with a decrease in the ability to process them, due to sick absence and social distancing measures. To dedicate 1 day each week to trying to clear that backlog seems reasonable to me.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Or you could just put packet drivers on like we do at the other time of year when we have lots.clashcityrocker wrote:While you state that your office has been clearing every day, what about your Mail Centre or the RDC?citypostie wrote:

At xmas there are extra staff as there is no annual leave.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:

Plus with the social distancing measures put in place we have vans being used later in the day and staff who are starting later less able to perform any overtime.
And once again you are looking at the problem from a DO point of view. What if the bigger problems are elsewhere in the pipeline?

Well they could ask people in DO’s if they could go and help out in their local MC on docket if a certain MC is struggling, it must be cheaper than paying out in agency fees and the RM workers would probably be more productive as well. The real issue is they want it all doing for nothing which is the reason it’s such a mess.clashcityrocker wrote:And once again you are looking at the problem from a DO point of view.
