Even in normal times if they tell you to leave mail behind and take the packets that's what you domeercat wrote:That's not what Dave said and he was quite clear. And that's not what the wording says.
A 'duty change' is a change to your normal duty. If your normal duty involves delivering letters then you can continue to do that.
But I'll agree it's a little vague, let me watch the facebook stream again...

There isn't going to be any letters. This means you can do your normal days work if you so wish = letters and packets.

OK I'll put my hands up and say I got it wrong.
'No duty changes' apparently doesn't mean 'no change to the work you do in your duty'.
Odd wording, it should surely say 'no change to attendance times'.
So letters are indeed cancelled on Sat - but duty attendance times can not be changed over the 6 week period unless you want them to.
I'll change the thread title to avoid confusion and apologise for causing any confusion, but the wording in Rico Back's letter is vague.

Glad some common sense has prevailed...well it has, but it hasn't.
Postie has to deliver to an address tomorrow.
It's a little childs birthday. Lets call her Isabelle.
Isabelle has been stuck in lockdown for nearly 6 weeks. Not seen her friends or grandparents, not able to go to the park etc.
Can't have a proper kids birthday party. Lockdown and all that.
Still at least she has her Mum, Dad and Brother.
Saturday morniing arrives and Isabelle is eagerly awaiting the postman to see what he brings.
There is a knock on the door. She is excited and screams "the postman is here"
The door is opened and the postman is stood some distance away,..."look mum, there's a parcel."
"Does the postman have any birthday cards for me?"
Hmm.... "sorry Isabelle, but you will have to wait until Monday to see."

Got told mail wouldn't even arrive tomorrow just if any mail was left over could be sorted but not delivered but all parcels must go tomorrow even the smaller ones which could mean delivering to a quarter of the street anyway so may as well just do letters surely? Was told its because there are that many parcels in sorting offices they want all staff to focus on them over mail and free up extra wagons that bring mail to bring parcels instead, Will be interesting tomorrow and lets see what its like

I don’t know what the plan was today but most up here were done and gone home by 12, loads in early Monday morning on overtime, managers as uninterested as postmen.

Total opposite to my office. We had cleared every day until today. After prepping the packets/parcels for the rounds it was obvious the only way to deliver was by doing the loops as normal because there where more packets in the frame today compared to letters on Monday. Most people only took 1 delivery out but most brought some of that back. So Monday as well as double mail there will be a mountain of packet and parcels from today.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:I don’t know what the plan was today but most up here were done and gone home by 12, loads in early Monday morning on overtime, managers as uninterested as postmen.
No overtime is being paid next week so by Tuesday we will have joined all the other offices with a backlog. Ridiculous really for an office with no one on sick or isolating since about 4 weeks ago.
Whoever dreamt up this plan needs sacking. It will never work with 50% staff so I'm guessing they aren't actually bothered if it works or not

It’s like each office is a different company, we also been clearing everyday but the tracked failures will now be through the roof as there was loads of little ones missed out as apparently a manager told people to leave anything that would go through the letterbox, don’t think she could have explained it too well as they took that to mean letterbox size tracked as well, dohhhhcitypostie wrote:Total opposite to my office. During the day and afterwards, I was like......'This parcel delivery Saturday was supposed to be a reward!'.....
It was not a reward. Ended up out past my time. Was walking a load of loops because we had to take all small 'packets'.... I might as well have had letters with me.
That was not a reward!!

Packets through the roof here as well. Instructed to take two walks out, only got as far as 1st road on 2nd walk. They had to get indoor staff to finish off. Monday could be a disaster aswell. It depends on the packet load.

They run out of vans pretty quick. The HCTs were sent out full of parcels and packets. Most had to return and reload at least twice.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

So if your a P/T'er who has basically worked every Saturday since dinosaurs roamed the earth and had been told in the week you are now working Monday-Friday, you can tell them to do one and come in on Saturdays and insist on a day off in the week?
