I’m just wondering if the furlough agreement is of any use to anyone
How can the business put so many strings on what Is essentially government money
- so from April 20 ,you take two weeks leave
- you’ve used up all your carried over leave or been unpaid
- you then need a letter from person your shielding from nhs
-we have already been in lockdown for 6weeks
-furlough lasts 12 weeks doesn’t it ?
So anyone that ticks all these boxes will get paid 4 weeks at 80 %
Then what ?
We are paying into a union to get a deal like that
Is this for real ?
Other firms that don’t even have a union got furloughed right from the very start and most without jumping through all these hoops
Come on Cwu ,open your eyes .this is totally ridiculous and there hasn’t been a word about it since we were told no letters on a Saturday

No good blaming the union. Royal Mail are making up the rules and are refusing to talk to the union. Direct your justified wrath at the bosses of Royal Mail

I agree this piecemeal approach to the virus, and the various agreements that arise from it seem engineered to sideline the Union. If I am right I hope more see through the bovine excrement and focus their anger in the right direction
The CWU is not blameless, they have been outplayed, but at least they are trying to jelp us.

Did they not talk to them to get that deal or am I missing somethingoypostie wrote:No good blaming the union. Royal Mail are making up the rules and are refusing to talk to the union. Direct your justified wrath at the bosses of Royal Mail
We know what we are up against with the bosses ,but for the union to come out to a fanfare of great deal etc on the furlough ,I really don’t believe it is
I’m not angry at the union but I’m starting to think they are being outsmarted at every stage

Does the ‘ if you feel your office is unsafe to work we will back you 100 % ‘ still stand ?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:oypostie wrote:No good blaming the union. Royal Mail are making up the rules and are refusing to talk to the union. Direct your justified wrath at the bosses of Royal Mail

What about stick to your own duty this sat ,will they back you if your suspended for this
They need to do something to justify their being there don’t you agree
I don’t want to see the end of the union but they need to show some leadership very soon and stop their ranting

I couldn’t agree more, it’s a rubbish deal! Why do you have to use your carryover holiday & two weeks into 2020/2021? It’s being paid by the government NOT RM. Really are there that many employees who have used all of their 6 months sick pay up? Even then it’s not meant to be about sick paywf wrote:I’m just wondering if the furlough agreement is of any use to anyone

Would also have to add it’s better to hang on to your holiday, stay on 100% sick pay funded RM then 80% funded by the government. Wake up RM your doing you out of money

to help in a judgmental manner
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Most of the guys who have been shielding other people have been doing so on unpaid leave because that's what the guidance was from the start. It would be easy for Royal Mail to change two weeks of that to annual leave and make the whole process a bit easier.
I can understand why they want you to take two weeks of your annual leave, this could be relatively long term and I think the furlough for shielding will be in place for much longer than the original 12 weeks, the only way out of lockdown for the rest of the country is to continue to shield vulnerable people.
I can obviously understand why they want evidence of both the NHS letter and proof of residence, this is government money not Royal Mail money and they have to cover their arses and ensure against fraud.
The ability to furlough due to shielding a relative was not part of the original scheme and was tagged on at a later date. To be fair it's not that many hoops to jump through in order to have piece of mind for what may be months and months of shielding. I would however make sure you qualify on all grounds before making an application. Use two weeks of annual leave first plus any carry over and get your documents together.

Ok this is not aimed at anyone or any post but there other companies than RM, just want to point that out as some people do think RM are the law & what they say goes.
My 30yr old twins have been furloughed by their different employees. They are not ill or shielding, just put on 80% & their company is already being paid by the government, no sick, holiday or other will be taken from them.
My 50yr old brother, who is employed by the NHS is diabetic, & although he does NOT have the letter & is not on the vulnerable list he is allowed 100% pay & no sick, holiday or other will be taken off him.
Just want to point out that RM can & should be more flexible.
