Carry Forward of Annual Leave
Is it ever possible to carry forward untaken annual leave from one leave year to the next, and if so in what circumstances, or do we all end up just taking leave when we least want to, like February ?

You can take 1 week over
They will let you carry 1 week over, but unless there are mitigating circumstances, that's all.
For example: several years ago, I was on long term Sick Leave following an accident at work. They let me carry almost my full leave entitlement over, as I hadn't had any opportunity to take it.

a few years ago over a period of time i ended up being owed 8 days. this was because of bank holidays etc falling into my leave weeks. i had built this up over a period of 3 / 4 years without realising. i was allocated all 8 days together in the february. nice bonus really.
watch out. there may be a dom about

Thanks for your comments.
Can I still count on this national agreement when my line manager is informing me leave can't be carried forward ?
And should I take a week short of my entitlement before the end of March, on the basis of the national agreement, rather than taking it all in cold, short-daylight-hours February ?

We've got an idiot in our office who hasn't taken any leave for two years. What sort of suckholing, arse licking creep would let these bastards have ten weeks holidays for nothing?

Before I joined RM, I would have thought you were joking. But I have seen so many weird things in my time at RM, including a bloke dropping-off a scab, then parking up and going on the picket lineIWW Fellow Worker wrote:We've got an idiot in our office who hasn't taken any leave for two years. In my last job, (going back a good few years) you got four weeks annual leave. Some people would take two and each April get two weeks pay in lieu of the leave. This plank got nothing more than the overtime he picked up over the ten weeks any normal person would have taken of. I expect his wife and daughter aren't complaining though. He's a gobshite of the worst type.Carnoustie wrote:Before I joined RM, I would have thought you were joking. leave entitlement has strange meanings in our office eg- your entitled to it but only when they say you can have it. The instructions on the forms this year were quite entertaining. (1) no odd days are to be picked only full weeks (2) you may carry a week over in dase you need to pick odd days.

The Way Forward - Carrying leave into another year
The Way Forward AgreementLounge Lizard wrote:Andy. Thanks. Is there any document, agreement etc where that one week carry-over is quoted ?
Section 4. Annual Leave (Page 19):
Carrying leave into another year
Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is duen and the business expects all employees to
have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried
over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous
leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager,
except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is
granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular year to less than four weeks, the individual
must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under
the Working Time Regulations 1998.
