Rico is calling their bluff on strike action vote because he can see how weak our union top brass actually are. The union should be telling Rico that if he wants to bypass them and therefore the workforce with massive changes to our delivery practices, then we will strike. This is totally unacceptable that RM are pushing through such massive changes to delivery and not one consultation with its members. I cannot believe the union have been so weak in the last few months, are all the union top brass hiding in bunkers until the pandemic passes?
What exactly, do you expect the union to do?

Obviously make sure your advice is legally sound else there’s no point saying it.

Luckily for me it’s my weekend off, but none of us have worked at the DO before so we will be working blind as there won’t be any training on the rounds. Not looking forward to it at all.
Just go in equipped with the new mindset - work your time and don’t stress.

Alternatively don’t comply as per union advice and pray you don’t get suspended.
I have a better idea, go on the sick for 6 months with stress, the union clearly don't care about you and RM clearly don't care about you, so why should you care about them? I have never had a day off in 9 years, but seriously considering just saying F**k the lot of them and going on the sick with stress for 6 months with full pay. I mean why even bother coming in? management don't treat you any better or give you any reward for it, instead they make your job even harder and riskier.

emm STRIKE! even if they have to pass another ballot. Just do something instead of pointless twitter/facebook posts that are only read by a small percentage of union members. RM will treat us like s**t if the union lets them, and it seems the union a letting them.

Do you realise that to get a strike they have to not get an injunction?

thinking the same mate. thing is none of us would be lying if we said we were stressed. We are all worried sick about bringing this home to families etc and now we have to deal with this. Its completely unacceptable and If we don't strike now then we will never need a ballot again as there will never be a better reason to strike.

Risking our health and families health so we can be laughed at by pr**s in mansions.

Rico is calling their bluff on strike action....
I don't think he is.
I think he wantsor at least does not care whether there's industrial action.
It is from his point of view the perfect time to take on and castrate the CWU.
The USO is already suspended.
The public are preoccupied.
The government has sweeping emergency powers.
The stock market and share price are already depressed below the company's asset worth.
There is a huge pool of potential casual workers out there desperate for work.
We are already working on a contingency plan basis.

It is probably the worst time in 100 years to be considering industrial action.
Only dead fish follow the current

I wouldn't be surprised if RM have or are looking onto whether a strike over this firstly would need its own ballot and if it does need it's own ballot, whether they could force the union to go through the whole disagreement and mediation process which would drag it out a good few weeks

And even if it didn’t need one, most legislation has the “national security / public interest” clause that can be activated seemingly at a whim, expect an injunction inbound during the pandemic, of course foreseen by the tacticians;

Most people moaning about the union doing nothing don’t realise how hard it would actually be to strike.

Officially.

And of course don’t expect the union to mass communicate some instruction to work to rule etc; that could be construed as a de-facto strike which is thus unlawful (be surprised if non conformity instruction deemed outside the scope of this tbh).

And on top of that you’ve got a load of folks who want the Saturdays off.

So yeah, anyone moaning about union leadership I wanna know what they’d do if they were running the show. I imagine there’s a lot of really half baked / lashy outey ideas out there that wouldn’t really work real world.

i honestly can't believe what i've read these past few months from RM
they block a strike down to our poor comms team goading people into acting daft on social media and use it as ammo with the surprise general election looming,
plans for change were outlined against the CWU wishes and we vote again, but this pandemic means that we as genuine humans postpone it to help our country still working in adverse conditions, dare say nothing like our true keyworkers,
then RM edit their plans when the pandemic "appears" to be in decline after weeks of absolute zero safety conditions and to help us out and on national postie day they announce they're giving 50% of staff saturdays off for our safety like some superhero company,
because we all know cv19 doesn't attack us sunday through to friday :arrrghhh
they haven't said once the country is back on its feet we'll be back to normal, no, these changes will be permanent.
honestly, i may be being a bit dramatic but that's what it appears to me, and why our union leaders aren't guiding us all via reps on shop floors is an utter disgrace,
ours hadn't a clue this morning, he had his own feelings but couldn't speak up to all without guidance from above
cwu bosses should be working round the clock giving us proper direct instructions via reps to all, not just those who can pass a message on and maybe get through,
some are laughing because its "oh saturdays off" , i say yes, along with the other six days soon as you've not been here that long and you'll be sacked,
because once this cv19 pandemic is over the virus will live on forever in RM and the cwu will cease breathing

i better go to bed

I have never been more confused about a situation at work in my life. 18 months into this job & it just keeps throwing up more questions.

I am on a 24 hr contract. In general I get minimum 35 hours a week. But don't know from one week to the next which duty I am on or what my day off is.

I rarely get a Saturday off, so a five day week on paper sounded good to me. But not at the expense of people's jobs. And from reading this thread, my own job could be on the line as I'm not a duty holder.

There seems to be totally conflicting opinions on this among the workers.

I have read a statement from CWU more or less telling us to refuse the changes being implemented, until they have been agreed officially at least.

I have also been told I can be sent home unpaid & face disciplinary action if I don't follow the changes.

I literally have no idea what to do.

To be honest, I have absolutely no faith in CWU top brass.

RM are casually making changes to thousands of legally binding contracts without consultation and all we get is action men on Facebook giving it the big one, yet failing to represent the workers as they should be expected to.

This is no slight on CWU men on the ground. Ours always keep us up to date with any latest CWU statements.

It's just that CWU are either unwilling or incapable of defending their members rights as far as I can see.

This is the most ramshackle of a company I have worked, or ever will work for.

Ok great so tell me why I am paying the union subs for then? What actually is their point if they are as hamstrung as you say they are? The whole point of the union is to fight for and protect its members rights, your saying they cannot do it, so the union has no purpose and should cease taking our money from us. Members should demand a refund for the last 3 months, as from what I have seen all that money went on twitter and facebook posts.

That's a great post Imod.

The big problem is CV makes calling a strike near enough impossible atm.

The company are not only exploiting that to impose their plans but they are publicly claiming that helping us through the CV pandemic is at the heart of the changes and that they are temporary.

They cannot be allowed to get away with this course of action. I hope the union are coming up with a solution right now. They have to.

Well if we all stop paying our subs we’ll definitely be worse off for sure.

It’d be way easier to pull sick pay for example.

Just giz an idea on this. Someone. Anyone. Maybe we can figure it out.

Blindly shouting for “summat” isn’t that helpful right now.
