:thumbup Agree completely lets get over this shitstorm first
I totally disagree,we are now a private company and it is the CWU's job to protect us ,i personally think if the unions comms actually tried to get out there what Royal Mail are trying to do i think the majority of people would be behind us. They are seeing 1st hand how keyworkers are being treated and when im out on delivery the amount of people are with us all i think its the perfect time as the working class and people at the bottom are treated like cannon fodder and companies are showing the utter contempt they show us. i'm affraid i firmly believe if we don't strike now by the end of the year the 20,000 job losses will be announced and we will slowly become another Hermes. Fight now or surrender forever.
Our security (or downfall) has always been the USO, it makes us unattractive to other companies (look at Whistls attempt). Although this change is 'temporary' it helps create a case for change especially as the USO is up for review. A few years ago I would say let's all go out and show our support, HOWEVER, since then our supply/collection/ DSA has been opened up, the parcel network hasn't been protected like the mail. IF we strike it won't take long for the other companies to get the contracts, especially as companies are after every sale they can get. If we loose those then with the decline in letters there won't be much of a business to go back to. I personally think we should work as suggested BUT refuse all overtime..... cut off if going over, no early IPS, no extra loops, no lapsing..... if rounds are failing this will show OFCOM that this method won't preserve the USO.

The idea behind this according to RM is to make things less demanding on us, which doesn't make sense when they tell you you can take post out when you know you can't.

But anyway, if this is the case, then surely we just deliver the parcels for the van share and then go home early so we can relax and have a rest? Yeah a parcel delivery job is less demanding, but jumping in and out the van all day is not the best thing for your joints.

Are we actually being rewarded here? is this our 'bonus'? to get some time away from carrying a bag on our backs?

That's the mail for the CSS it also states any surplus CSS operators could be re assigned to IPS so i presume manual mail will still arrive.
you're correct
"Friday night CSS operator duties will now complete IPS, prep or Door to Door prep – no CSS mail should be processed."

suppose it will give those left indoors on a saturday a chance to learn IPS and other frames, 1 good thing i suppose as most i know refuse to learn it ;-)

Our packets have exploded,I'm delivering nearly a York and half of packets,it is like friggin Xmas all over again

Most postie's can drive, yet where are the hire vans?? The business are expecting postie's to use their own cars to go out on delivery and/or go out delivering 6 loops at 1pm. Glad I'm not one of those doing evening duties. Will they be working this way at Xmas??

Now the business says it is struggling to cope with sickness hence we should all forget about delivering post on Saturday. How convenient covid19 is proving out to be given that this is what the company have been after for months. At Xmas they employed dozens of agency workers to get all the work done. They might only have been delivering packets but the fact is they paid staff to get the work done. Now the company have put two fingers up to that in an effort to cut costs and save money.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I’ve no idea how it’s going to work when you’re struggling to see past 3.30pm. I had this discussion with my other half. The only way it would work is

1. If the 1pm guys are only put on rounds they know inside out

and

2. They are given less mail/bags...so you get out there 1.30pm ish, and do 2 hours of delivering.

All walking done by dark, then you’re just doing the packets albeit in the dark but hopefully if you know the round inside out you’ll know where most addresses are. Not ideal obviously.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I think that's what they proposing in our office going from 1 in 4 Saturdays to 1 in 2 with a rotating day on the week you work the Saturday. Basically splitting office down the middle into 2 groups who have the same days off. On the Saturday you deliver parcels etc for both van share deliveries
What happens to the Posties who cannot drive?

How are they going to go out and deliver parcels?
I imagine in nearly all cases posties who can’t drive won’t be working Saturdays. The odd senior dude might get a cushy indoor only Saturday.
I wouldn't call 7 and a half hours prepping walks and door to doors as cushy.

Ask your Dom for a trolley. You shouldn't have to carry a bag on your back. Or do you just do it coz it's faster, then winge about it?

That's what I was doing in December, tried to save as many pkts as I could for the dark and deliverd as much mail as I could before 4pm, then did an hr or so doing packets. I'm a single rural so that helps apart from it being really dark when it's dark. Also got a quality rechargeable powerful head torch, it was fantastic almost like day light.

It was the opposite way round for me, I was being paid to come in early then go out at 7am with packets before returning, bagging up and going out and doing the round. Tbh I knew the area fairly well and managed. Only thing I struggled with is the van is so dark inside at that time it was hard to find some parcel. Like you say a good quality torch should do the trick next time.

This is full scale assault on the USO under the guise of ‘supporting’ staff in the current crisis.

If you’re not prepared for strike action to show you’re up for the fight, don’t be surprised when others aren’t up for the fight when they come calling for your job...

I’ve seen the unions message for members to ignore all proposed duty changes and carry on as normal.

I’m really happy about that and looking forward to doing just that.

Right i suspect i'm going to be the first to say this and i also suspect i might get lynched
But broadly speaking having read through the document fully (might need a re read or two). I reckon this might actually work in my office and sort out some of the problems we are having during the pandemic.
We already do 1 in 6 and i reckon about 50% already take their day off,Would be more than willing to take Sat off? Probably (i would).
As i read it the remaining 50% carry on as normal with rest day covers or SA depending on what they do,The obvious response here is that they will use the excess rest day covers to wipe out the SA,But we have walks everyday that are not covered due to people being in isolation etc and can usually just cover the packets.
The week before last at one point there were 2 of us out of 6 rurals just scrabbling about trying to do the tracked over the whole area.
Part of the problem in our office is the amount of time its taking to get the parcels sorted means that we end up leaving the mail in the frame Thurs or Fri onwards as by the time we get out we only have time to do the packets.
Using any excess staff to help with packets sorting/delivery would give us a chance to get the mail done.
On Monday i had 3 days worth of mail in my frame D2Ds no chance,no room! With this scheme ok you've double mail to prep on Mon but if someones already prepped the d2d's taking them where you're going you'd probably pretty much empty the frame in one go.Again if any excess rest day covers are dealing with the packets this shouldn't be an issue.
Right i'm fully prepared to be shot down but in general i read this as a way of freeing up some bodies that can be utilised during the pandemic.

Like you’ve highlighted, most on here realise that once it’s in it’ll stay for good.

Rico is never going to bring back a more expensive system out of the goodness of his heart. He’s into money. Not humans.
