Hence the divide and conquer style of it.
How many people in the 'top' 50% are going to knock back a mon-fri.
It’s not the top 50% it’s all non drivers regardless of seniority will be mon - fri then whatever’s left I suppose would go on seniority

Do you think that will all of sudden get Rico to negotiate.
Don’t know is the honest answer but something has to change in the relationship between the business and the union.
We've tried belligerent, it has not helped it has not worked and if anything it's made the situation worse.

This is bigger than the two personalities involved, the relationship between the two is poisonous and it's affecting union members.

Don't know is also the only honest answer as to whether strikes will get Rico to negotiate, don't know if members would support a strike in the present circumstances, don't know how long support would last, don't know if the government or courts would intervene, a lot of don't knows and a lot more at stake.

This is what I've been told
I’ve just come off a conference call, our PEC are meeting this evening ( via Zoom ), after calls with our Divisional Reps today, it certainly looks like we will be activating our strike ballot.
All Reps will be informed to register disagreement as it’s not an issue for local talks, it requires national intervention.
RM trying to plow ahead with their un-agreed plans under the disgraceful shadow of the Corvid -19 virus, absolute disgraceful and must be met with the full force at our disposal.

My gut feeling is that if the CWU do call a strike either RM will take the union to court and get it blocked or the government will block it to aid social distancing

Strike or no strike, I urge the union to start using words and material that the general public will understand. Cut out the long winded documents, sum up a few key points, go from there.

7 page long documents about USO, shorter working week, PHGs OPGs etc aren’t going to capture the attention of joe public or the papers. People have attention spans of about 10 seconds, make your point very clearly, minimal words maximum impact.

Just make it clear:

Major job cuts
Bullying and harassment continues
Lack of PPE
Employees given disciplinary warnings for daring to have heart attacks on delivery.
Employees not being paid in full when on annual leave (holiday pay).
A boss who lives in another country who was given £6m to join.

Please Terry, Dave etc...cut out the waffle. Make it clear and concise.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Whats gonna happen with annual leave? I have all of mine booked on weeks when I would have been working 4 days. Can they take leave away from us?

Annual leave is done in hours, if you've still got the number of hours the week then you don't lose any annual leave

All roads lead to the same point, Terry can call him names and rant and rave about where he lives but at some stage with or without strikes someone is going to have to negotiate with Rico's team otherwise we're finished.

The question is would the very high risk last throw of the dice strategy of strikes achieve that or make it less likely?
It's clear you think that the issue is with Terry and that replacing him will help fix this mess. Something I do not believe will help. But let's go along with it.

Say we replace Terry and Dave with a pair that use nicer, More professional language. Do you think that will all of sudden get Rico to negotiate. Our grievances will remain the same. Will Rico negotiate? We say please, Will, Rico negotiate? RM push forward with more EA and we say please stop, Will Rico stop? Will he f**k. Trying to appease belligerent Germans has historically never ended well. Wake up and smell the coffee. This dispute is only going to end one way and that is with strike action. Prepare to fight or prepare to be a doormat.

If Waddington weeks go then RM have to credit everyone on the system another weeks leave

I think he means he has taken time off next to his days off. If days off change then it ruins his plans. The same goes for those of us in Wallington weeks.

The question is how do you get to the point of negotiation.

The relationship between the two main players has become bitter and personal and entwined in their own individual survival.

What we have become embroiled in is a Mexican standoff between two knobends with serious ego issues.

The only way to walk away from a Mexican standoff is to de-escalate the situation. Terry and Rico must step aside and allow the adults back into the room.

Anything else will end in a bloody mess.
The man is not interested in negotiating. He doesn't believe in unions. He's been ignoring the union for months now. There is only one way to force a man like that to listen and that is with a strong arm. If we can't get him to negotiate you can bet your arse his shareholders can!
They are, just heard Davde Ward on LBC saying full page ads in the papers explaining to the public what RM are trying to do.

Sorry Woodie , Rico has been taking the piss out of us for too long. The Union should tell the public they are losing part of their service on Sat and that Rico is decimating their service. Strike ,and a plunging shareprice is the only thing he will understand.

May Day bank holiday moved this year to Fri 8th for VE Day celebrations. Not that a lot will be happening on that front with the lockdown.
