So the idea is to have 50% staff for a Saturday.
Here’s the situation:
An office comprises of say, 10 x standard five day weeks, who currently get one rota day off a week, and 4 x four day weeks who get two rota days off a week.
Let’s say all posties do not want the fixed Saturday off, so no volunteers.
If the seven least senior staff are on five day weeks, does that mean they are forced to mon-fri, and the four day weeks keep their four days?
I think all Wally weeks , 4 day weeks etc are going. It will be a new duty set for the office
The guidance provides that they are not simply “going” for the sake of it, only where they need to in order to drop staffing levels to the required 50%.
The way I read it, it is entirely possible to retain non standard duty structures provided staffing levels are at 50% using mon-fri Saturday off patterns for volunteers / less senior members.

I think that's what they proposing in our office going from 1 in 4 Saturdays to 1 in 2 with a rotating day on the week you work the Saturday. Basically splitting office down the middle into 2 groups who have the same days off. On the Saturday you deliver parcels etc for both van share deliveries
But where is the day off for the week you don't have Sat off and how is it covered?

I think you right according to that. But a few people have said they are going no matter what it says on there. They've been gunning for them duty structures for ages. They all went in my area years ago

....and if youre not van share? what happens then? Big oppertunity to scam people in offices with varying length days. For example our mon to fri week would be 21 mins over 38 hrs as it is now. Are they hoping most posties will be too thick to work that one out?

Don't know that yet but I'm guessing it would be covered by the person who does it now who will also be freed up for an extra day by not working Saturdays anymore. Plus when I'm not working Saturday instead of having a weekday off they will be able to cover something else

Don't have a clue about single van Duties apart from they've said that business duties will be covering their own plus 2 other duties parcels

It wont be as rest day covers will be scrapped. You will come back to 2 days of mail. Prob 3 days if your off sat and then mon.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

I totally disagree,we are now a private company and it is the CWU's job to protect us ,i personally think if the unions comms actually tried to get out there what Royal Mail are trying to do i think the majority of people would be behind us. They are seeing 1st hand how keyworkers are being treated and when im out on delivery the amount of people are with us all i think its the perfect time as the working class and people at the bottom are treated like cannon fodder and companies are showing the utter contempt they show us. i'm affraid i firmly believe if we don't strike now by the end of the year the 20,000 job losses will be announced and we will slowly become another Hermes. Fight now or surrender forever.
So after reading about this it would seem that rural deliveries will only deliver their own parcels on a Saturday plus a few extra if time allows and so the DO may need more than 50% of staff in after all...50% of the walking lads and all the rural delivery drivers. I guess it will depend how each DO is set up.

Actually i just found the details Its 50% of the office go onto M-F week in week out
50% Maintain a rotating day off and on Sat cover 2 duties Packets only. They still get rest day covers as normal (If you were already doing 1 in 6)

Struggling to get my head round all this so might be missing something obvious but if they scrap all Waddington weeks and rest day/week cover won't the office be overstaffed?
