There have been job losses every year for the past 10 years at least.
Job losses is nothing new.

As it is starting this week, does that mean 20 000 people are being made redundant this week then?
When are the redundancies due to start?
Are they voluntary redundancies or compulsory?

All roads lead to the same point, Terry can call him names and rant and rave about where he lives but at some stage with or without strikes someone is going to have to negotiate with Rico's team otherwise we're finished.

The question is would the very high risk last throw of the dice strategy of strikes achieve that or make it less likely?

50% of office duties will work Mon-Fri with fixed Sat off, those on Mon-Sat duties get 1 in 6 Saturdays off if I've read it right.
Saturday staff will be split between delivering parcels and prepping all D2D into frames for following week.
Monday will become the longest day instead of Weds, being 8hrs30mins long.
Tues will be 6hrs30mins long.
Weds will be 8hrs long.
Thurs, Fri and Sat will be 7hrs30 long.

Very unclear what will happen to PT staff, both duty holders and day off covers, who currently do 3-day or 4-day weeks... Continue as they have been, or contract hours spread over five days?
Not read the document, interested on how those figures were worked out?

Job losses would happen if they managed to convince Ofcom to allow the business to lose the Saturday letter service permanently and then they did revisions to reflect that

Bigger duties, mail spread over 5 days rather than 6 and no rest day covers required

Probably make some Saturday only contracts for parcels
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

It's clear you think that the issue is with Terry and that replacing him will help fix this mess. Something I do not believe will help. But let's go along with it.

Say we replace Terry and Dave with a pair that use nicer, More professional language. Do you think that will all of sudden get Rico to negotiate. Our grievances will remain the same. Will Rico negotiate? We say please, Will, Rico negotiate? RM push forward with more EA and we say please stop, Will Rico stop? Will he f**k. Trying to appease belligerent Germans has historically never ended well. Wake up and smell the coffee. This dispute is only going to end one way and that is with strike action. Prepare to fight or prepare to be a doormat.

What about working on the government angle? OK, they might not normally care much about the labour force but ATM they are pretty desperate to preserve any jobs that can continue to exist and if it is well demonstrated to them that this proposal does nothing whatsoever to ease our coronavirus struggles and is nothing more than an agenda to cut costs and reduce jobs they might be inclined to take some action on protecting the USO.

There's not going to be a one size fits all solution.
Different offices will come up with different workplans.
I know you were answering stodgy's question but I feel this is also the Main Problem with Royal Mail's latest proposals. Yet again they think a "One Size Fits All" is the way to go.

We've had a bit of a struggle on certain days, due more to RM insisting people take their booked holidays and don't work their day off than Covid Absences. Generally though it's Business as Usual and we've not Failed anything yet. Obviously some Larger Delivery Offices (I suspect in more Urban Areas) are really struggling, and I sympathise. I would have liked to think Rico would have included his own Unit Level Management Teams in this decision, and asked them if they needed this type of change? :hmmmm He's obviously shown his hand, and demonstrated that this is the way he wants his Business to go. :thumbdown

This latest announcement has certainly caused a lot of stress to some Posties that are already stressed enough. :no no We know it's all Bullshit but to try and introduce something like this under the guise of: "Helping our Hard Working Employees during these difficult times", is just despicable. :cuppa

That's why when management ask for "suggestions" or "ways to improve" same as in the Courier magazine, and some clown comes up with an idea or a suggestion :arrrghhh keep your gob shut with your stupid ideas & let the managers manage, that's what they get paid for :thumbdown
Turn up, do your job, go home & forget about Royal Mail :wave
Talking about giving RM ideas - didn't Terry and Dave ask RM for Easter Saturday off.......?

Totally agree , to try this on while were in the firing line of this awful disease , and some posties have lost there lives is disgusting. The job is stressful enough for everyone at mo this just adds to our worries.
