This is profit before people within this business now. Unfortunately it's not the time to strike but I would urge all union reps to stick together and put in a disagreement, all posties up and down the country are struggling to clear the office and this will only put another strain.

The business is hoping that everyone will clear on the Monday with little cost. I urge everyone to just work the hours your paid and go home, they dont deserve any extra help. We all know what royal mail's agenda is in the near future so watch this space and stick with your union.
What planet are you on at the office I work at what’s overtime?on Monday we will fail loads of part walks as no overtime is being paid
If you look at the briefing document for managers (a Powerpoint file, downloadable here: https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... p?id=12325" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), it states: "Zero OT should be incurred on the Monday to deliver additional letters and large letters". (Page 12).

Also, on Page 10, it states: "There should be ZERO Pressure Overtime or SA on a Saturday".

Seen a few suggest day off covers and those who were last in are screwed. I’m not so sure - the sorting office I’m in has about 125 rounds. I know this isn’t representative of every DO but about 60% of duty holders here are people in their late 50s/early 60s. There’s a few younger full time duty holders (20%) but not many. Day off covers tend to be younger cos they don’t have enough seniority to get their own round and ‘last in’ PTers are all much younger still, usually in their 20s or 30, on 25 hour contracts with much more flexible contracts (mine requires me to work any hours between 7am and 7pm INCLUDING bank holidays if required!).

If the idea is to cut staff and I hope it isn’t, I doubt the priority will be young wet behind the ears posties who cost the business less wages, are generally faster outdoors, who are moved daily from pillar to post with little fuss all in order to keep uncle Brian on his 38 hour contract who’s done his round for 31 years, refuses to ever be moved and has a half hour argument every Tuesday with the line manager about lapsing. That’s not a criticism of the Brian’s of Royal Mail btw, they’ve earned it.

If cuts are made I can see a situation where the older ones nearing retirement are hassled to the point they give in and leave. Those who manage to put up with the harassment (a bit like those SAS courses) will then be offered redundancy. Leaving a younger majority PT flexible workforce with few loud voices. That’s where I think RM want to go with this, rather than ditching those who’ve only just joined.
That exactly the plan, they don’t want us oldies anymore for the reason you have pointed out. Can’t see there being any VR’s paid out either, they just want to piss people off into leaving.

Look for volunteers to move to the standard 1 in 6 Saturday off duty. 5. If there aren’t sufficient volunteers, then the selection should be based on seniority, asume that means going from the bottom of the seniority list .

Thanks for that info. Well this shows they want the business to crumble to its knees.

Can someone help me interpret the PowerPoint guidance regarding Saturday resourcing...

So the idea is to have 50% staff for a Saturday.

Here’s the situation:

An office comprises of say, 10 x standard five day weeks, who currently get one rota day off a week, and 4 x four day weeks who get two rota days off a week.

Let’s say all posties do not want the fixed Saturday off, so no volunteers.

If the seven least senior staff are on five day weeks, does that mean they are forced to mon-fri, and the four day weeks keep their four days?

You’re not saying those with the most seniority will be forced to alter attendance structure first, are you?

yes I agree my friend,am 58 years old and in my 38 th year with this once much loved company,I barely have the stomach to engage in any conversation with my brainwashed minion of a manager,he really doesn’t get us older posties, and constantly quotes”maybe it’s not the job for you anymore”after every challenge on overtime and loaning and fairness in the daily office politics, evr yes please but I don’t hold my breath on it

I think all Wally weeks , 4 day weeks etc are going. It will be a new duty set for the office

Having read that maybe they aren't!

I think that's what they proposing in our office going from 1 in 4 Saturdays to 1 in 2 with a rotating day on the week you work the Saturday. Basically splitting office down the middle into 2 groups who have the same days off. On the Saturday you deliver parcels etc for both van share deliveries

What a strange company I work for. We have been currently using agency staff to get all the walks delivered and now from this info the company are looking to save money by only delivering parcels on Saturday.

If less than half the usual indoor staff are working on Saturday, who is going to be able to fully prep all the duties?? Do we leave loops and packets on the Monday then? Is no one allowed the overtime? Because this seems to be more about saving money than about delivering a service.

How long are these temporary measures? How can they allocate it so that every staff, part time or full get their fair amount of Saturdays off? And that's presuming everyone wants Saturday off, I know staff that work it regardless

So much for the 4th emergency service!!

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
