What makes you think strike action will make him listen?

Would you negotiate with someone who refers to you as Mr Greedy? Calls your managers schizophrenic?
We now have no place at the negotiating table because Mr Pullinger fancied himself as a Youtube sensation. He has let us down time and time again. He needs to go. And now.
and do you think he will listen if we do nothing. think again.

What's that strikes?
Every single behavioural signal this guy has given off points to the fact that the more you push him the more he pushes back, he's a walking monster ego. He has spent his entire career facing down unions and you think he will stand up and listen if we have a couple of one day strikes in the middle of a pandemic?

The reason he won't negotiate is because he's butting heads with another monster ego and neither will back down.

f**k me guys, read the room.
Definition of insanity, doing the same s**t etc...

The question is how do you get to the point of negotiation.

The relationship between the two main players has become bitter and personal and entwined in their own individual survival.

What we have become embroiled in is a Mexican standoff between two knobends with serious ego issues.

The only way to walk away from a Mexican standoff is to de-escalate the situation. Terry and Rico must step aside and allow the adults back into the room.

Anything else will end in a bloody mess.
The man is not interested in negotiating. He doesn't believe in unions. He's been ignoring the union for months now. There is only one way to force a man like that to listen and that is with a strong arm. If we can't get him to negotiate you can bet your arse his shareholders can!

Sorry Woodie , Rico has been taking the piss out of us for too long. The Union should tell the public they are losing part of their service on Sat and that Rico is decimating their service. Strike ,and a plunging shareprice is the only thing he will understand.

Where do you get that figure? A lot of offices run with vacancies, so they won't get filled.
A lot of offices have people close to (and past) retirement age - they won't be replaced.
So who is being put on the dole?

It has been clear for some time that the present situation isn't sustainable. Something had to change.
(I think it is funny how people talk about negotiating in good faith when the union says we recognise the need for change and then there are 300 disagreements in place up and down the land to prevent any change.)
The only reason it has been put off for so long was because the business was being subsidised by GLS. It can't be any longer.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

We don't need to strike yet - we just need to continue to do the job in spite of the intructions and obstacles they're putting in place.

Public support might not be everything but which side the customers are on is relevant in any dispute and I still believe it would be pretty easy to secure as long as the trigger for the walk out is clearly displayed as "Royal Mail try to sack postie for delivering the mail". Everyone, except apparently Rico, thinks that's our bleeding job.

The man is not interested in negotiating.

He is, he just wants to negotiate on his terms as does Terry.
They're both acting like spoilt children at the moment.

.....but suppose you're right what if he really truly and definitely isn't interested in negotiating?

Multiple choice now.

Do you think a couple of days of strikes will...

A) Change his mind

B) Further entrench his position

Honesty time now.

From brief scan of the document, looks like...

50% of office duties will work Mon-Fri with fixed Sat off, those on Mon-Sat duties get 1 in 6 Saturdays off if I've read it right.
Saturday staff will be split between delivering parcels and prepping all D2D into frames for following week.
Monday will become the longest day instead of Weds, being 8hrs30mins long.
Tues will be 6hrs30mins long.
Weds will be 8hrs long.
Thurs, Fri and Sat will be 7hrs30 long.

Very unclear what will happen to PT staff, both duty holders and day off covers, who currently do 3-day or 4-day weeks... Continue as they have been, or contract hours spread over five days?

Well his terms are unacceptable. He has his vision and it is clear that he doesn't care how he achieves it. Which is why we are finding ourselves in dispute. RM were pushing ahead with executive action and seemingly are again. Doing nothing has got us no where.

Honesty time. Rolling strikes will quickly bring the network to a standstill. It may not be quick as I believe he is up for a fight and so am I. More than willing for a prolonged dispute. His shareholders will have his head before we demand Pullingers.

Is Terry really telling people that 20 000 posties are going to be made redundant?
When?
