Public assurances don't mean anything. This company isn't a democracy. It's a capitalist entity and customers have little integrity when it comes to a company lying to its staff. They only care about making as much money as possible with the most cost effective carrier for service provided. Amazon have killed the high street and treat their staff like s**t. Do their customers give a s**t? We live in Trump's post truth world. Apathy is too wide spread for public opinion to mean anything.Woody Guthrie wrote:That's obviously how they'll play it and they'll use the word temporary a lot.1560loopsayear wrote:We've lost the PR battle at first light according to CWU tweet - BBC News have already 'hinted' at this decision being requested by RM staff to relieve the burden of pressure, almost like RM is doing us a 'favour' by allowing some of us the weekend off, and other's a not so 'busy' Saturday as normal.
What the union should do now rather than ranting and raving falling into the trap is get some public assurance that it is temporary and if it isn't back them into a corner and force them into admitting that it's not. Something along the lines of
"during these uncertain times our key worker staff who have been working tirelessly to keep the country connected deserve at least to know whether the business has plans to reduce the service permanently, that's all our members are looking for, a little honesty surrounding their future "
Once we know where we stand long term we can decide what to do next.
We have been kicking the can down the road long enough now. Seeing where it goes. It's obvious where it is going. They are taking the piss and laughing at us. The only trap we are falling into is not taking action. That is what they are hoping for. One day soon it will be too late. It doesn't matter if it makes us unpopular. I'd rather been unpopular with a job. This job. One worth having.
If not now then when? If not me then who? Time to put Rico to the sword.
