Unless I am mistaken Royal Mail seem to have now removed the announcement from their website. Latest update is now dated 22nd April.

No overtime and they can get rid of afew people.
Not paying overtime anyway - been told its company policy

The few you say they 'get rid of' - where are they going in two weeks time? You think they will be told they dont have a job?!
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

If jobs are cut it will be dog eat dog. I don’t think it will simply be a case of day off covers are shown the door and a last in/first out system given most who were last in are on 25 hr, part time flexible contracts.

I think anyone nearing retirement and full time will be harassed till they can’t take any more and quit. Other older full timers who don’t rise to the bait might be offered redundancy if they are lucky.

Which then leaves RM with more of a part time younger workforce on flexible contracts.

Using me as an example, I’m 25 hr contract so cost the business less money, my contract says I’m to work bank holidays if required (!!), in just short of 2 years I’ve learned 40 rounds, I know IPS. There’s a few who started same time as me who have similar ‘qualities’ if you will. I think RM ultimately want a part time flexible workforce.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Agree with this. From a cost efficiency\flexibility point of view RM will be doing much better out of keeping the PT staff.

Will RM try and use this "parcels only Saturdays" to not give FT posties a wage increase (that we were all due from a few weeks ago) and instead drop their contract hours to 37?

The 1 hour reduction was part of last years "pay rise" and part of the original strike ballot. We are still due another pay rise.

This is still on the Royal Mail website this morning: https://www.royalmail.com/d8/coronaviru ... es-service" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and https://www.royalmail.com/d8/saturday-services" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All what’s sorted into the drop bag fitting I presume.
Technically a good chunk of what we send out to DOs as "small packets" are technically "large letters"
Have the Chinese packets started arriving again yet? There's got to be boat loads of that stuff on it's way
Inward Chinese packets that go through the SD locker have doubled in the last 10 days. We are currently back to pre-lockdown levels.

Cant they just separated them in the Post Offices like the specials are.
they are, the POs have been told any signed for items go as a special, so recordeds are in the special bag
The SD lockers in MCs will probably just toss them back out to the normal sorting. Any item which is not a UK special or on the list of countries whose SDs go through RMs system as specials does not belong in the SD system
Recorded delivery items found in our SD locker are scanned as specials and included in the SD bags. Only because its quicker than going out all day long putting them back into the normal mail streams at the other end of the building.

Ashley’s wrote:How companies lie through their teeth to the very customers they serve yet care only of how theyre perceived by them. I can tell you now this CEO of this company is using this pandemic to make an absolute killing on the millions of shares he brought at a rock bottom price, he intends to do away with 20-30 thousand jobs for hard working key workers and he intends to cash in just like he did in charge of GLS in germany. Time the public called for his head and nationalisation of this great service...it is part of the very heritage of this country and has shown its absolute worth at a time the country is in need. For Royal Mail to treat its staff like this at this time under the pretence of doing us a favour is completely despicable.
He's not making any money on his shares. There's no divi now and he's well under water at the current SP.

We've lost the PR battle at first light according to CWU tweet - BBC News have already 'hinted' at this decision being requested by RM staff to relieve the burden of pressure, almost like RM is doing us a 'favour' by allowing some of us the weekend off, and other's a not so 'busy' Saturday as normal.

That's obviously how they'll play it and they'll use the word temporary a lot.

What the union should do now rather than ranting and raving falling into the trap is get some public assurance that it is temporary and if it isn't back them into a corner and force them into admitting that it's not. Something along the lines of

"during these uncertain times our key worker staff who have been working tirelessly to keep the country connected deserve at least to know whether the business has plans to reduce the service permanently, that's all our members are looking for, a little honesty surrounding their future "

Once we know where we stand long term we can decide what to do next.
