IOM post went to 5 day week in October so it looks like Royal Mail used them as a case study to how to reduce costs. The next big thing will be reduced wages for new starters. As good as this job is I think its terrible for a new young person to start in in terms of the outlook. Some days I just wish emails didnt exist to know that that would secure my job. The sad fact is that letters are down and basically We are all doomed. We need to strike. But if we strike we may lose contracts to other parcel companies... in fact we will. I see no way of us winning this. Royal Mail have played their ace card using this corona virus excuse as we cant strike. If we strike we will look really bad at the time that millions of people are also losing their jobs.

I believe the only thing to save royal mail will be those automated parcel hubs in 2023 giving next day delivery on the cheap. Essentially guaranteed 24 hour. And with time slots of 1 hour we can start to win back some of the contracts we have lost to DPD. If we cant do this, and if in 5 years time the mail volumes are still going down 8% a year with more parcel contracts lost to hermes ect, then I'd say Royal Mail is finished. Theres no way we could survive without direct government takeover. (Hopefully in time for a general election where Labour may win).. leading to renationalisarion .... I hope and pray. It's going to be such a tough couple of years coming and my advice to you is get out if you can

Can't wait for the Mayday Bank Holiday. Three days of mail to prep and deliver on the Monday on top of dtd and bank holiday weekend frenzy internet parcel shopping of packets and parcels.

Great way to ease the pressure.

Well done to whoever thought that one up.

Could well be that way or you could be prepping Friday & Saturday mail and D2D (if you have any) for 2 walks on the Saturday after delivering some packets

And even if they do it still leaves 3 days of letters to deliver on the Monday and we all know what is like after a normal bank holiday.

Everyone and I mean everyone needs to get this into their head. Rico couldn't give a s**t about you. He's clearly trying to ignore the union in its totality. The only thing that will make him listen is when his and his shareholders bottom lines are put at risk. A strike is the ONLY thing that will help focus his and their minds. The general publics opinion of us is just that, An opinion. It doesn't help nor hinder us if they dislike us posties. What does matter is Customers going else where. The point of a strike is to show your employer that you can starve them of an income and that it is then in their best interest to come to an agreement. People are saying if we strike it will harm us etc. IF WE DO NOT STRIKE IT WILL HARM US! If these proposals are kept permanently and you can bet your arse they will try then we are looking at tens of thousands of jobs gone and the continued degradation of hard earned terms and conditions. We as a society are allowing the country to regress through our inaction and apathy.

Rico and the board don't want to listen to us. So we must make them listen. We have the mandate. Time to call it.

How do you think that's going to play in The Daily Mail?

A disgusting publication but I always have a glance at the ‘best rated’ comments under an article to see which way the wind is blowing, seems to be quite a lot of support for the concerns in this thread

Talk of a strike at this time is futile.

We will be taken to court and lose due to the current coronavirus situation.

We are f****d if we don't try. It is clear RM are using this an opo to push through changes. If the union do nothing then they are showing how truly feckless they have become. May as well cancel your subs now. My office and area rep are useless as is let alone national being soft. Time to toughen up folks.

I think the answer there will be to let your manager know you won’t be able to complete, and see what their solution is. Chances are, you’ll be asked to make sure the packets get done and roll some of the mail over to the following day. Repeat as necessary.

If the clappers and thumbs uppers had voted labour the NHS would have been funded properly staff paid properly and protected from privatisation and the royal mail and transport workers would have taken national establishments back off the nasty fat cats and created a society that helps and supports the working classes.
So instead of relying on frankly a cool old guy walking up and down his garden for funding and the support of rainbows and claps we as the little man would not be getting shafted whilst key working for rich boys and serving the Eton boys.....Not so funny now is he Boris. And I don't even like labour but in our position if Joe public really wanted to support the NHS they should have voted Labour it's a shame Stammer didn't come in earlier or the election was in a few months maybe we would have got nationalised and put an end to this sh#te.
Why doesn't everyone walk how can they sack everyone? I'm sure someone can explain to the press why this has happened and reasoning for such a walk out...to be honest though I think the nail is in the coffin for the old postman soon... The Last Post

Seen 1 or 2 this week, I think the British public have turned against buying stuff from China for the time being.

Trouble is you don’t always know where the goods are coming from. Ordered 6 bottles of hand sanitizer from Wowcher about 7 weeks ago when it was impossible to buy any in the shops. It took about 4 weeks to dispatch them and this week when they still hadn’t arrived I clicked on the tracking link in the Email to find they had been sent from China and had just arrived at Heathrow.

Let's face it, the media will go after us whenever we strike.

A few years ago the Sun was caliing for all striking doctors to be sacked - DOCTORS ffs!

RM is hitting us, hitting us and hitting us. They're using the virus as an excuse. They won't talk. The only option we left is to hit them back.

Strike now.
