I would love Monday - Friday, or at least the chance to have more Saturdays off, i would also be sorely tempted by EVR as i know a lot of senior guys would. Looking at Letter volumes i can see where RM are coming from tbh. Managed correctly there may not be too much opposition to this.

Tend to agree. There are more in worse condition that us. Wait till they actually mention job losses till we discuss what were going to do. BA just announced up to 12,000 redundancies. The world is basically fxxcked now. Should have just let it take it's course and protected the vulnerable. There will be far far more deaths from the economic hardships that the next 10-15 years or even longer will bring, than will ever die from covid 19. I think the world will look back in 50yrs and say, we got it wrong. Yes it's a tradegy that 21,000 UK citizens have died so far, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to how many will die from the resultant deviation of the world economy. We ARE lucky to even have a job, for now. In 5yrs I believe there will be no royal mail. Just my thoughts.

Your looking at this from a person coming to the end of their working life. I look at it from keeping as many good quality jobs as we can so the next generation can have at least the same level of employment security and quality as I and you have enjoyed. You may say great I get Saturday's off. Yes maybe for now. But what's the next idea to save money deliveries every other day?

Depends on your point of view, for those who have signed rest day sa contracts it's roughly a 20% pay cut overnight. With respect, they've done this 'coz they know the reaction of many will be like yours: great, weekends off. They've rammed this through without any consultation pretending it's about covid when it's really about pushing an agender to undermine letters which are the most labour intensive part of the business. This is a major step towards becoming Hermes, Yodel ect.

It's not weekends off is it. It's just don't take a couple of hundred letters per delivery on Saturday. That's not Saturdays off.

It will be for some maybe 1 in 3 and if extra staff are in during the week you can bet that they will want staggered starts later finishes to social distance giving them exactly what they wanted via the back door. The union/us have a tough call to make.

There is an old saying isn't there - 'pick your battles wisely'?

We are all seemingly headed towards a 35hr working week anyway and doing that over Mon-Fri is probably more achievable than Mon-Sat.

And surely 5 days a week FT with far more Sats off would still be a good job, arguably a better job?

In theory it would potentially mean Saturdays off for some of us at my office as we work 6 days a week (Saturday is compulsory SA)
It wouldnt make sense if those who do trolley rounds only take parcels as not many would fit in, so not sure how that would work.
Just say NO ....to the new agreement.

Maybe one person could cover the tracked+recorded packets on 3 or 4 rounds if that is all they are delivering. In that case only 1 in 4 staff would need to attend on a Sat.

If ALL packets are going then maybe 1 person could cover 2 or maybe 3 rounds so maybe less than half the office would be be needed to come in on a Sat.

With no letters involved you'd get out the door pretty quick with your packets - plus a big bloody list!

I think the main reservation is the uncertainty about the employment status of many our colleagues going forward. It might be brilliant though, as you allude to......

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Where do you get those numbers from?
