MP to go postal

BRIDGWATER'S Royal Mail delivery office will be visited by the town's MP in the run-up to Christmas.

Ian Liddell-Grainger will be there to see how staff deal with the mountains of festive mail and will also chat to hardworking posties who make sure they deliver a first class Christmas for Somerset residents.

He will make an early start in order to meet delivery office managers and some of the 157 postmen and women there who are responsible for ensuring the massive Christmas mailbag is delivered to over 43,000 addresses at Royal Mail's busiest time of year.

The visit will be in time to post any cards and presents for delivery before Christmas, with the last recommended posting date on December 20 for first class mail.

I am in no doubt that this will be a complete stage managed show layed on for this visiting Member of Parliament. What's the bet that they already know the time and date that he will be visiting which will give managers all the time they need to run around like headless chickens putting everything inhouse in order.

Charles Hendry has turned up at his local DOs for the last 2 years and walks round to every postman wishing them seasons greetings and thanking them for their work. Am hoping that this year they take the opportunuty of telling him a few home truths about their employer, as I know he meets up with :cfo every few months in his role of shadow minister for postal affairs.

We have had our MP turn up at our office nearly every year at Christmas, He's even gone out on stage managed deliveries. The whole event is a fecking farce. Watching post men and managers sucking up to him is sickening. He wasn't to keen on meeting me on the picket line when I asked in front of everyone why he hadn't signed the EDM and told him what we thought of the current Labour government. The %&^$

Our MP used to turn up, but we haven't seen him since Christmas 1997. He wouldn't dare show his face these days.

Sister shelanda I would doubt that a down to earth decent postie would be able to get a few decent sentences (home truths) in as there will probably be a quango of toddying managers escorting him about the premises and I would doubt very much if any of the brothers and sisters would truly let loose for fear of later retaliatory recrimination from said management.

Although having said that it is always worth looking up their voting record on such things like early day motions (EDMs) and taking them to task over it. Most of them just use it for a quick photo call anyway.

He lives less than half a mile from the picket line and walks past it at least twice a week to and from the railway station so there's no excuse really - except that New Labour isn't Labour.
