Self Isolate Twice?

Post by Rmurphy91 »

Evening.

I’ve already had to self isolate as me and partner had symptoms of the Covid 19. However now my step daughter is showing symptoms. Should I self isolate again and what would happen with regards to sick record and pay?

Cheers

If you have already shown symptoms then no, you don't need to isolate again as in theory you should be immune. If however you get symptoms again then you isolate for minimum of 7 days as before. There is an official chart somewhere i have read but can't find it now. However, as a key worker your step daughter can get tested now as can you

It is only in cases where you have actually tested positive for Covid-19 that you would not need to self-isolate twice.

The official government advice.
What to do if you have another episode of coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms after the end of your first period of self- or household-isolation

If you develop new coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms at any point after ending your first period of isolation (self or household) then you need to follow the same guidance on self-isolation again. This means you need to stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started if you live alone. If you live in a household, you need to stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started and all other household members will need to stay at home for 14 days. This will help to ensure that you are continuing to protect others in the community by minimising the amount of infection that is passed on.
If you previously tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) and have another episode of symptoms, do you need to self-isolate again?

If your first illness was so severe you were prioritised for a coronavirus (COVID-19) test and the result was positive, you will probably have developed immunity to coronavirus (COVID-19). Your new symptoms are very unlikely to be due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and therefore you and your household do not need to isolate.

However, if another person in your household develops symptoms and they have not previously tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), then they need to isolate along with all other members of the household except for you (as you have already tested positive).

If you are concerned about your new possible coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms (a new, continuous cough or a high temperature), use the 111 coronavirus service or call NHS 111.

afaik there's no proof that anyone whose caught it becomes immune and if they do become immune are they immune to all strains or just the strain that they caught

You should self-isolate for 14 days.

As you are an essential worker, you should be able to arrange for your step-daughter to have a Covid19 test. If she tests negative then you can return to work.

If she’s displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19, the poster shouldn’t be returning until after 14 days at this point, regardless of the test result.

The whole point of the ruddy testing is to get people back to work who are needlessly self-isolating due to an illness which isn't Covid19.

That’s not the only point by a long stretch - it’s much more helpful to know who tests positive so that additional precautions can take place.

The false negative rate is sufficiently high that caution should be exercised in rushing back to work; presenteeism, will, as usual, be a damaging behaviour. Even in cases where the individual is genuinely suffering from a non-COVID illness, who wants to be mingling with someone spluttering all over the place when there’s a lethal virus doing the rounds? It’s really not the best of times to end up sick and run down.

The whole point of the testing is to isolate and trace the contacts of positive cases of Covid-19, thus saving a great deal of time isolating and contact tracing everyone with symptoms.

It is only a reliable positive test, it is not a reliable enough negative test unless done under hospital conditions. It was never meant as a means to badger people back to work and only Royal Mail management are stupid enough to believe it could be.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
