Single vans to stop?
Single vans and yet I've seen 2 postie's working in the van. The postie jumped in the passenger side of the van that the driver was driving round the corner from the office. There are obviously a few postie's cutting corners doing this job. Those who are driving their car following the van out on delivery, well would they be allowed to do this in normal circumstances??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

How would they know unless they've been in hospital and tested?daveyeff wrote:They may have both had the virus
Having coronavirus symptoms is not the same as having coronavirus.
And if they're sure that having it makes you immune they need to contact Science Weekly because even the Scientists aren't sure of that.

2 positive tests in ours. One was wearing a mask before he contracted it as well.

but the safer way of working will mean a drop in profits, something that they will prevent happening, and business is booming for the time of year for rico & co.themailman wrote:I think the next thing that the union need to be looking at (in conjunction with still fighting for PPE and Social Distancing) is the assurances that many of these downright shady practices mentioned on this thread (and there are far more, trust me) are ended, unequivocally.
Royal Mail have a duty to come up with ways of getting the company through this without resorting to practices that were consigned to previous decades.
Single vans are here to stay for the rest of the year in my view.
our union chiefs need to be jumping on this assuming every office is falling fowl of the guidelines to which it seems to be and instructing us all to walk out where seen by a union rep to validate it, it may upset the public not getting their paddling pools and such, any urgent medical supplies should be sent special delivery and still treated as priority and these items can still be shipped whilst staying safe.
i've always said our unions social media policy sucks, it's about time they provided evidence to the national media and not just statements people just don't care about

Not if it's a planned change.but the safer way of working will mean a drop in profits,
One part-time postie starts on the street, one full-time postie preps the two deliveries and meets the part-timer on the street.
It's only inefficient at the moment because they're not able to pre-plan who goes where and when.

Also people are using there cars to take parcels and mail out which I thought wasn’t allowed, so he reckons that we will start sharing vans as it’s very low risk anyway, is this official then as we have no union rep and I’m not happy with this at all
If they still try to then you have every right to use section 44 of the health and safety act , often misused and misunderstood but would absolutely apply in this instance.

don't know how your d/o works under normal circumstances but having 1 ft fully prep inc d2ds if more the 1 lot, and tie up on BOTH DUTIES probably adds 45/60 mins per dayWoody Guthrie wrote:Not if it's a planned change.but the safer way of working will mean a drop in profits,

then add the time "feeding" the other guy, another 45/60 mins per day say, that means realistically they need nearly 1 new postie per 2 pairings without overtime
those who love overtime at my d/o are currently creaming it in

You're assuming that the way we prep the mail stays the same.1 ft fully prep inc d2ds if more the 1 lot, and tie up on BOTH DUTIES probably adds 45/60 mins per day
It won't.
Why would you "feed" the other guy?then add the time "feeding" the other guy
The van is just a mobile pouch box, the delivery is designed around him feeding himself when he needs to.

honestly we've tried it and just not feasible without the mobile bag drops and excess over-size parcels now,
the current workload is yes, light on mail, but add parcels & d2d it's not far off on par with xmas where we have excess staff on parcel runs

Planning.please explain how the non driver gets from the end of 1 loop to start the next without overloading them?
These duties were planned for van share driving from loop to loop.
They need to be re-planned delivering from one loop to the next.
It's nothing new, it's how we used to work using boxes.
