Amazon increase hourly pay

Post by POSTMAN »

Postal workers around the world are only second to NHS (and other countries equivalent) front line staff.
Your average delivery driver delivering packets has it much easier than you lot.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Did I say your office? Trust me, it is happening and it will be costing the company a fortune.
Yep true
I've no doubt it will be offset though by the increase in mail volumes. Hand posted parcels and letters are through the roof. Every box I empty has parcels and stamped letters bursting out of it. These are boxes that would normally have 2-10 letters a day in them.

I absolutely agree with you I have just finished a collection shift and every box must have had a minimum of 30 letters, these are the boxes which would some days struggle to make the 5 mark. In the town box I had to use a full sack and that gets emptied 3 times a day!
Yesterday was by far the busiest Tuesday I can remember, Christmas aside, and extra letters were a substantial contributor to that. If I’d followed the advice and taken door to doors to every calling point, I’d never have gotten finished.

Here's the post:

They do now. There are temperature checks for all staff upon arrival every day, face masks issued every day, hand sanitiser and wipes everywhere, canteen tables split up for 2m distancing rules, breaks extended and split up more so that there are less people on them at once. Canteen food is now portioned into "to go" boxes to minimise contact. Staff now work at every other station to enforce distancing too, reducing site productivity. Security no longer search people leaving. They are deadly serious about it all now.
I can vouch for all of the above being true.
I can also add that they're paying their sub contracted cleaners an extra £2 per hour which is a nice touch and not something they had to do. What are our cleaners on?

Obviously we do some of this, but Amazon appear to be more on the ball.
Go tell Pullinger because he thinks he's done a great job of making sure we're all safe.

He’s probably been extended an invitation to fly over to Rico Towers as a thank you after this is all done. I see a future rife with “now is not the time to quibble, let’s get the business back on track”.

If amazon are getting an extra £2 an hour what was their hourly rate to start with?
tesco staff are getting a 10% bonus for all hours worked for approx a 6 week period. Sounds good but as their hourly rate is only £9 it only means an extra 90p per hour. Staff have also been contacted that testing is being rolled out to more key workers so tesco are to start trials this week in one region for staff showing symptoms not sure what that will entail.

It’s shouldn’t be a race to the bottom; we shouldn’t be satisfied with a shoddy deal just because others have it worse. That’s the sort of mentality that Rico & his crew will be hoping we adopt.

Never said anything about a race to the bottom nor meant to infer one or others having it worse. I'm just stating what I know and asking out of interest what amazon actually earn a genuine question.

It's in another article posted earlier. £9.50ph or £10.50ph london weighting.

The £2ph increase works out to a 21.1% increase at £9.50ph, and a 19.05% increase at £10.50ph, if I'm calculating it correctly.

However, Amazon can easily afford this...more so than most other companies, including ours.
