If selections are limited to 1 per physical office, can they (potentially) sort inward and outward at the same time or are there not enough outputs for that to be possible?Lockardian wrote:And yes, the PSMs have both inward and outward sorting modes.

There are only 79 useable positions. You shouldn't mix traffic. The plan number tells the machine whether it is inward or outward 1c or 2c.SpacePhoenix wrote:If selections are limited to 1 per physical office, can they (potentially) sort inward and outward at the same time or are there not enough outputs for that to be possible?Lockardian wrote:And yes, the PSMs have both inward and outward sorting modes.

Why can't inward and outward 1C not be sorted together? iLSMs when they sort 1C outward, they also sort down to batch level for the inward at the same time with anything for a inward manual or bulk/firms selection going to a separate stacker to go through as plan 1 overnight.Steve_claret wrote:There are only 79 useable positions. The machine will residue sort intra on an outward plan but not true inward. It's all to do with traffic recording.SpacePhoenix wrote:Why can't inward and outward 1C not be sorted together? iLSMs when they sort 1C outward, they also sort down to batch level for the inward at the same time with anything for a inward manual or bulk/firms selection going to a separate stacker to go through as plan 1 overnight.Steve_claret wrote:There are only 79 useable positions. Even the intra can not be put back through the inward plan as it needs to go to manual sorting as it will contain lots of return address missorts.

Today (Saturday) my RDC used Circa 50 agency staff on the early shift. As a consequence of increased staffing levels, partly due to redirected mail, social distancing is affected.

It’s crazy how some centres are overwhelmed and others quiet. At our mail centre today there was barely anything to do before the collections arrived. Very few DSA flats and letters. That said, we divert all the 2C and T48 so nothing from Friday left to sort except mis-sorts to forward.
Even nightshifts have slowed down again with agency staff sent home due to lack of work. It’s not exactly quiet, but nothing compared to last week. Perhaps there are Yorks of mail in the hubs that have not yet been sent our way.

Larger MCs getting priority for artic usage perhaps, maybe in places getting 2 artics doing the same run where there'd normally be just 1 artic?

I was told at weekend that our previous Sat was our busiest sat ever - this weekend was busy but not manic but this sat we diverted 450 York's to regional packet sorting hubsLockardian wrote:It’s crazy how some centres are overwhelmed and others quiet. We are still diverting 300 ish 2c sleeves/yorks per day Mon - Fri
We had to divert 100 1st last Sat
Our staffing levels are much higher with most RM staff back but still relying on agency workers to deal with the increased volumes
Last Friday we couldn't get all the agency staff we needed so we failed badly
Seen huge failures in the last few weeks but things have gradually improved but every shift struggles to get the mail out - now we are in June we have to get the mail out

Last week was exceptionally busy again due to the bank holiday - our Centre has recruited more temporary staff from another agency but there were failures on late shift with the 1C dispatch and the night shift for the first time in weeks.

Surprised that they are not already using it for the full 24 hours. The only downtime is usually Monday mornings when the engineers get it,paulus103 wrote:
Do parcel sorting machines do both inward and outward?
I think if this workload continues my MC needs to reaccess how they organise shift patterns and operate a 24-hour operation processing 2c and inward standard/tracked parcels.
Most MC's will probably use their PSM's to sort mainly standard Inward parcels on lates and nights as well as 2c STL on earlies. If they have any further capacity which they probably won't have at the moment then they could do some tracked or 1c on lates.

We divert about 80% of the 2c but nothing else unless it is a huge 1c failure
